EOKA

Description

May the 20th, 1956 Cyprus . Crack British troops after searching for days are closing in on a band of terrorists hiding out in the Troodos Mountains . Intelligence reports and radio intercepts have narrowed the search area down to a network of caves hidden deep in a wooded hillside. As the troops move in on their target Royal Air Force helicopters join in the hunt. The men on the ground include Royal Marine commandos, members of the parachute regiment, and the Gordon highlanders. In deploying such an elite fighting force the British are leaving nothing to chance. The terrorists they are up against bombed and shot their way across Cyprus for the last 12 months. No one has been spared -- off duty soldiers, police officers, civilians, even women, and old men have been cut down in cold blood, as the terrorist pursue their violent campaign. Known as EOKA or the National Organization of Cypriot Fighters, the group's avowed intention is to drive the British out of Cyprus, introduce self-government, and join forces with Greece . This goal is commonly known as Enosis, the Greek word for union. The EOKA's leader is George Grivas , formerly a high ranking Greek army officer.
