But before the election, several important items had to be in place, namely, an electoral register and voters' cards. And these things presented huge problems in a country with limited infrastructure and security. With the help of the United Nations, the European Union and advisors from Belgium it has been accomplished. A Belgian firm shipped the computers, printers, photographic equipment, and its experts were on call. Delivering the necessary electronic kits for printing the voters' cards to a safe holding area was also a tremendous problem. The trucks were in disrepair and their low-paid drivers did not have enough food, drink, or sleep. Its insight derived from an anthropologist, David Turton, who has been studying the Mursi for years and who was able to provide the absolutely essential explanations of the mysterious events filmed by the Granada crew. This is the kind of illumination which is often provided by books or by personal experience, but almost never by television. Caught in the sway, American prose writers sought out the forbidden — the slang, the dialects, and the rhythms of the folk and of everyday life. Writers such as Hemingway, Stein, and Fitzgerald forged a new style: one which silhouetted the geometry of language, crisp in its own cleanness. About the series: A video course on American literature for college-level instruction and teacher professional development; 16 half-hour video programs, instructor's guide, study guide, and Web site. American Passages: A Literary Survey is a 16-part American literature course. The video programs, print guides, and Web site place literary movements and authors within the context of history and culture. The course takes an expanded view of American literary movements, bringing in a diversity of voices and tracing the continuity among them. The materials, which are coordinated with the Norton Anthology of American Literature, can be used as the basis of a one or two-semester college-level course or for teacher professional development. Zoe begins by getting the pupils to look at pictures of peacocks and discuss the colours and designs of their feathers. She demonstrates how to draw a peacock face on their mask templates, providing the pupils with a guide picture to work from. Once the pupils have drawn out the faces, Zoe demonstrates how to paint on the colours and the details of the face. She provides a limited palate to get the pupils to concentrate on using a limited number of colours. When the masks are dry, it's a simple matter for Zoe to fold the mask. How much money should oil giant BP pay the countless fishermen on the Gulf of Mexico who are fighting for their livelihoods in the wake of the largest oil spill in history? How can hundreds of ailing Vietnam vets be compensated for their suffering, which stems from exposure to Agent Orange? How can hundred thousands of retirees who depend on a small pension be compensated if the pension fund they trusted in failed due to mismanagement? These are questions that almost appear cynical, but not for America's most famous compensation specialist: Ken Feinberg. Shortly after the terror attacks on September 11, 2001, the U.S. Congress created a fund to compensate all victims who agreed not to go to court. ONE man was appointed to have sole responsibility for deciding how much compensation was to be received by people according to their individual circumstances: Ken Feinberg. He offered to meet all victims or their families personally. However, his calculation model caused uproar among many of them who felt that the value of their lost loved ones could never be compensated with money. In 1984, the Agent Orange case made Feinberg a household name overnight: 250,000 Vietnam veterans who sprayed the toxic defoliant over the jungle and who later suffered from severe diseases sued the chemical companies that had produced this substance. Feinberg managed to negotiate an out-of-court settlement. However, it was the 9/11 compensation fund that truly made him a star. Since then, hardly a national tragedy has befallen the USA without Feinberg being called upon to play his part. We will focus on a selection of his major cases: Agent Orange, 9/11, the Wall Street crash, the BP oil catastrophe and a new one: the imminent cuts in the Central States Pension Fund. All of them are not only turning points in U.S. history, but also ask troubling questions for all of us, worldwide. PLAYING GOD is more than just the story of a controversial man who at times seems virtually omnipotent: What happens within our Western system of values when economic interests and people's lives become intertwined by tragedy?","stream","['Feinberg, Kenneth R']","['United States']","['Compensation (Law)', 'Pensions', 'BP Deepwater Horizon Explosion and Oil Spill, 2010', 'September 11 Terrorist Attacks, 2001', 'Compensation management', 'Damages']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1009811xxx/1009811882/1009811882-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;3989431" "asp99239599400971","","Great lesson ideas. In search of Haydn","","102 minutes","['In search of the great composers']","In this eagerly-awaited documentary, Phil Grabsky's biographical account of Haydn's life is a visual and aural extravaganza, including breath-taking performances by some of the world's most celebrated musicians. Following his award winning documentaries, In Search of Mozart and In Search of Beethoven, Phil Grabsky continues the series with In Search of Haydn. Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was one of the greatest musical innovators. Mozart and Beethoven greatly looked up to him as an inspiration and yet today in concert halls he is perhaps too often overshadowed in favour of his younger contemporaries. As Andras Schiff recently pointed out: ""The world needs to appreciate him much more: of all the really great composers, he is still the most underrated"". By speaking to some of the greatest living exponents of Haydn's music, this film redresses the balance and sheds light on the master and his work. Phil Grabsky hopes that Haydn will reach a wider audience who will be surprised, entertained and enthralled by Haydn's wit, humanity and insatiable creativity. Haydn's life spanned from the end of the Baroque period to Napoleon's invasion of Vienna, outliving his younger friend Mozart. He was one of the most prolific composers, producing more than 100 symphonies, 64 quartets, 16 extant operas, 51 piano sonatas and the oratorios 'The Creation' and 'The Seasons'.His seemingly light-hearted, placid temperament embraced the troubles and tribulations of life with casual humour and irony. Though blessed by an encouraging patron, running his own orchestra and opera company for some 30 years on the Esterhazy Estate, he was exposed to the usual upstairs-downstairs antics of an aristocratic household and follies of an artistic world. These years proved to be enormously productive, inspiring Haydn to write numerous works to please his patron and his eminent guests with witty theatrical evenings, jokes and the occasional prank. Phil Grabsky follows the same format of presenting the composer's biography and music chronologically. Through intimate and revealing interviews with experts and detailed extracts from Haydn's personal recollections, the audience gains tremendous insight not only into Haydn's music but an appreciation of the artist himself. The emphasis of the film, as with the previous films, is on the performance - and interpretation - of Haydn's music, with performances from the world's greatest musicians and orchestras.","stream","['Haydn, Joseph']","['Austria']","['Composers']","['Feature films', 'Biographical films', 'Nonfiction films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1007885xxx/1007885493/1007885493-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;3259137" "asp3276267-marc","","Reaching teens. 35.4","","4 minutes","['Reaching teens']","This instructional video, from the ""Reaching Teens: Strength-Based Communication Strategies to Build Resilience and Support Healthy Adolescent Development"" series produced by the American Academy of Pediatrics, is a lecture by Marina Catallozzi about the teen brain.","stream","[]","['United States']","['Emotions in adolescence', 'Youth development', 'Adolescence', 'Brain']","['Educational films', 'Film excerpts']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1007996xxx/1007996071/1007996071-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;3276267" "asp1003005853-ahiv","","Pictorial report number 10","1954","28 min","['Big picture', 'American history in video']","","stream","[]","[]","['Military supplies', 'Military police', 'Fighter planes']","[]","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1003005xxx/1003005853/1003005853-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?AHIV;774479" "asp1780768-ediv","","Just for governors. What this film shows with indelible clarity is the deep rift within Saudi society between the extremely wealthy and corrupt royal family who are ostensibly our allies (and business partners) and the majority of people who live in poverty and resent the excesses of the monarchy. Saudi exiles living in London keep close contact with dissidents at home via the internet in the hopes of fomenting a revolution. One of them observes that having an American air base in Saudi Arabia following the Gulf War was 'a wake up call.' The close relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia dates back to 1945 when President Roosevelt, mindful of oil interests, forged ties. King Faud who buttressed the close Saudi-American friendship is now frail and cannot function as ruler anymore. Prince Abdullah who is anti-American is taking over. Chef Nishan is so dedicated to this ethic that the frozen waters of Buzzards Bay will not deter him. With waterman Rod Taylor as his captain, the chef plunges in for one of nature's perfect offerings: the bay scallop, with its pink and orange shell and translucent, sweet meat. Arranged (Omiai) marriages were possible only within a culture of obedience. Obedient sons and daughters chose to do what their parents wanted them to do, the needs of society being more important than the needs of the individual. Today, Omiai marriages are relatively rare, but they continue to occur among people who are concerned with inherited property and titles. A Changing Heart takes an intimate look at how the Japanese, in only a century, have come to adopt love as a rationale for marriage. By examining the changing roles of women, the shape of families, the impact of World War II, as well as industrialization and the decline of tradition, the film illustrates how and why the Japanese have accepted new attitudes toward dating, romantic love and marriage. A Changing Heart also addresses the social consequences of this evolution. As people struggle with the high expectations fueled by this newly love-obsessed culture, marriages occur less often, birthrates decline and the number of divorces grows. Women in particular are increasingly choosing the independence of professional careers over married life, and young men are facing unwanted bachelorhood.","stream","[]","['Japan']","['Man-woman relationships', 'Marriage', 'Arranged marriage']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1003830xxx/1003830907/1003830907-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?FLON;1650396" "asp1650524-ahiv","Nelson, Stanley, 1955","Two dollars and a dream","1989","52 min","['American history in video']","This is a biography of Madame C.J. His work has inspired therapists around the world to keep reaching for the highest levels of professional effectiveness, reminding us to constantly assess what works in therapy, what doesn't, and why or why not. This is the theme of his bestseller The Heart and Soul of Change, which sifts through more than 40 years of empirical research to highlight the field's most effective, reliable strategies. He's also pioneered in developing measurement systems to help therapists track our own therapeutic effectiveness and pinpoint the professional areas that need strengthening while examining how the social context in which we work can either enhance or undermine our motivation for excellence. In today's address, Miller will talk about what we're learning from ongoing research into what makes a top performer---and how we can apply those lessons to gain mastery in our own profession, and in our lives.","stream","[]","[]","['Psychotherapy', 'Psychiatry', 'Strategic therapy']","['Filmed lectures']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1005108xxx/1005108193/1005108193-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?CJIV;2303867" "asp2202788-engv","","Electromagnetism","2008","51 min","['Advanced physics series']","Professor Geoffrey Taylor explores electromagnetism and related concepts and issues including magnetic flux, electric fields, and magnetic fields.","stream","[]","[]","['Physics', 'Electromagnetism']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1005585xxx/1005585169/1005585169-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?ENGV;2202788" "asp2336468-blsv","","Black and white music","1979","22 min","[""Tony Brown's Journal"", 'Black studies in video']","In this 1979 episode of Tony Brown's Journal, Tony Brown discusses crossover black musicians with LeBaron Taylor and Harold Wheeler.","stream","[]","[]","['African American musicians']","['Filmed interviews']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1005748xxx/1005748428/1005748428-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?BLSV;2336468" "asp4038076-marc","","QED. Working in Bishop Stopford's School in Enfield with maths teacher, Ben Pearce, and geography teacher, Rhys Jones, John focuses on three Year 9 pupils who dominate both teachers' classes. The teachers don't want to damage their enthusiasm, but they do want to improve the teaching and learning experience for everyone in their lessons. But very quickly cancer reveals new layers of complexity and a formidable array of unforeseen defenses. In the disappointment that follows, many call for a new focus on prevention and early detection as the most promising fronts in the war on cancer. But other scientists are undeterred, and by the second decade of the 2000s their work pays off. The bewildering complexity of the cancer cell, so recently considered unassailable, yields to a more ordered picture, revealing new vulnerabilities and avenues of attack. Perhaps most exciting of all is the prospect of harnessing the human immune system to defeat cancer. This episode includes patients Doug Rogers, a 60-year-old NASCAR mechanic with melanoma, and Emily Whitehead, a six-year-old child afflicted with leukemia. Nina Ricci's Peter Copping delves into an unabashedly romantic sensibility for fall, inspired by artists' portraits of admirable women. Maurizio Pecoraro explores the sensuous flapper style with the touch of Italian luxury. A favorite of both Lady Gag and Madonna, Francesco Scognamiglio's provocative collection finds inspiration in things as delicate as a rose. Tod's woman heads into the great outdoors donning edgy shearling, leopard, supple leather and fur coats accompanied by exotic skinned accessories to match. Plus, Marni uses geometry as decoration to complement a lean and strict silhouette while still keeping its elegance. Always the ultimate in femininity, Luisa Beccaria did not disappoint, including a touch of regal elegance this season.","stream","[]","[]","['Fashion design', 'Fashion designers', 'Fashion shows']","['Documentary television programs']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1006747xxx/1006747088/1006747088-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?FASH;2731934" "asp2660301-marc","","Hard facts about drugs. Data manipulation language","","42 minutes","[]","Teaches how to go beyond writing SELECT statements and to manipulate data within your database tables. You'll begin with an introduction to Data to Data Manipulation Language (DML) that covers the INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements. You'll use these three statements most often, and they are the next most common three to use following the SELECT statement that has been covered earlier in this series. Watching the video, you'll learn how to use these three statements to insert new data into your database to tables, and to update data in place without having to bring it down to the client and push it back and forth network. You'll also learn to delete data when it's no longer needed. Also covered in the video is the MERGE statement. You'll learn how this little used but very useful statement works to make extract, transform, load (ETL) processes much more streamlined. You'll learn to throw large numbers of rows at your database, letting the MERGE statement sort out which rows represent new data to be inserted, and which represent updates to existing data. You'll be able to write cleaner load processes for data warehouses, data marts, and other reporting statements using your knowledge of MERGE. You'll also learn some fast ways to delete data from database tables. In addition to DELETE, you'll learn about DROP and TRUNCATE. These statements provide you with options for quickly deleting data. Each has their best use, and this video helps you to make the correct choices and avoid unwanted downtime in your production database environments. Finally, you'll learn about identity columns and sequences, using them to generate primary keys to uniquely identify new rows of data that you are storing in your database tables. Throughout this video you'll learn the gamut of data manipulation statements that SQL Server places at your disposal, and when each is best applied. What You Will Learn: Add data to your database using INSERT and MERGE statements; Update data in place without sending it back and forth over the network; Choose correctly from three possible ways of removing unwanted data Streamline; ETL process used to load data marts and data warehouses; Automatically generate primary keys to uniquely identify new records. Who This Video Is For: For business analysts, developers, and others whose career will benefit from a knowledge of the SQL language for accessing Microsoft SQL Server databases and manipulating the data they contain.","stream","[]","[]","['Relational databases', 'SQL (Computer program language)']","['Instructional films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1010544xxx/1010544352/1010544352-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-fit-1024x578.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;4691356" "asp3360587-marc","","Āfsāīd.
