David has had a year of teacher training experience with his PGCE and Sandra has had three years with her education degree. Both have chosen to work in South London primary schools. With the stress of the second term assessment behind them, Sandra and David focus on personal targets. Dana, expresses her joie de vivre in belly dancing. Lisa describes how she came to terms with her weight by making a conscious decision to accept her size. She has to explain to her mystified mother that she loves herself in all her girth. She courageously invites her e-mail boyfriend to meet her. We see him catch his first approving glimpse of her at the airport. It seems to be love at first sight and they eventually settle in together. While Janine is comfortable with her weight, she does have health concerns and considers surgery to reduce her size. As a single mother she worries that her weight might effect her longevity. Teresa believes no one will love her if she doesn't love herself. With her over-the-top sense of humor she has created a successful stand-up comedy act spoofing her corpulence. Then the pupils deliver the lesson to their peers. The whole process informs teachers about pupils learning but also gives pupils real ownership of their learning. This approach is then taken up in the Science department, where NQT Rebekah Collins discusses her lesson with her Year 10 pupils and hears their thoughts on the lesson structure and activities as well as its resources, before they go on to deliver parts of it to their peers.","stream","[]","['Great Britain']","['Mathematics', 'Student evaluation of curriculum', 'Peer teaching', 'Lesson planning', 'Science']","['Instructional television programs']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1004320xxx/1004320203/1004320203-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?EDIV;1742728" "asp2231565-vast","","Psychic Vietnam","2006","59 min","['This world']","Thirty years after the end of the Vietnam War, some families still searching for loved ones missing in action are turning to psychics for help.","stream","[]","['Vietnam']","['Mediums', 'Vietnam War']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1005636xxx/1005636049/1005636049-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?VAST;2231565" "asp2201339-vast","","Technology today. Beijing","2007","72 min","[]","This enlightening film looks at the issues of urban gentrification and preservation in Beijing today. For the past decade many of the city's old neighborhoods, the ancient, densely populated enclaves of narrow, winding streets and crumbling courtyard houses have been steadily demolished due to industrialization and modernization. The houses called ""hutongs,"" were built around a central courtyard which provided structure for each family's development. Many were labelled unsafe by the government and have now been replaced by office towers and high-rise apartments. Much of the devastation has occurred in the Quianmen neighborhood, once the domain of the Qing dynasty (1644 -1911). For centuries it was filled with hutongs, opera halls and boarding houses filled with scholars. Quianmen is only one piece of the continuing citywide slum clearance and construction boom that have accelerated to prepare for the Olympic Games in 2008. Affordable housing has become such a serious problem that many people from old Beijing have been forced to the city's outskirts because they can no longer afford to live in their old neighborhoods. This has led to enormous traffic jams as more Chinese workers own cars and commute from the outskirts to the center. In 2005 the government came up with a new city plan which they hope will provide a way to accomodate both the city's heritage and its new development. This plan may provide for the city's growth as a world power center but has it come too late to save the city's architectural heritage?","stream","[]","['China']","['Gentrification', 'City planning', 'Historic preservation']","['Documentary television programs']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/content/1003832xxx/1003832036/1003832036-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?ARTV;1641518" "asp3907087-marc","","Google search for dummies & Google calendar for dummies course. The holder of more patents than any other inventor in history, Edison had achieved glory as the genius behind such revolutionary inventions as sound recording, motion pictures, and electric light. Born on the threshold of America's burgeoning industrial empire, Edison's curiosity led him to its cutting edge. With just three months of formal schooling, he took on one seemingly impossible technical challenge after another, and through intuition, persistence, and a unique team approach to innovation, invariably solved it. Driven and intensely competitive, Edison was often neglectful in his private life and could be ruthless in business. Challenged by competition in the industry he'd founded, Edison launched an ugly propaganda campaign against his rivals, and used his credibility as an electrical expert to help ensure that high-voltage electrocution became a form of capital punishment. Edison explores the complex alchemy that accounts for the enduring celebrity of America's most famous inventor, offering new perspectives on the man and his milieu, and illuminating not only the true nature of invention, but its role in turn-of-the-century America's rush into the future.","stream","['Edison, Thomas A']","['United States']","['Inventors']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1007011xxx/1007011380/1007011380-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?PBS2;2804303" "asp3916061-marc","","Gas hole","","102 minutes","[]","What caused America to go from being a leading exporter of oil to the world’s largest importer? It also provides a detailed examination of our continued dependence on foreign oil and examines various potential solutions -- starting with claims of buried technology that dramatically improves gas mileage, to navigating bureaucratic governmental roadblocks, to evaluating different alternative fuels that are technologically available now, to questioning the American Consumers’ reluctance to embrace alternatives. Visualize data in Tableau. Analyze and interpret exercise outputs in Jupyter and Tableau. About: Python, SQL, and Tableau are three of the most widely used tools in the world of data science. Python is the leading programming language. SQL is the most widely used means for communication with database systems. Tableau is the preferred solution for data visualization. The course starts off by introducing software integration as a concept. We discuss some important terms such as servers, clients, requests, and responses. Moreover, you will learn about data connectivity, APIs, and endpoints. Then we continue by introducing the real-life example exercise the course is centred around: the Absenteeism at Work dataset. The preprocessing part that follows will give you a taste of what BI and data science look like in real-life, on-the-job situations. Then we continue by applying some Machine Learning to our data. You will learn how to explore the problem at hand from a machine-learning perspective, how to create targets, what kind of statistical preprocessing is necessary for this part of the exercise, how to train a Machine Learning model, and how to test it — a truly comprehensive ML exercise. Connecting Python and SQL is not immediate; we show how that's done in an entire section of the course. By the end of that section, you will be able to transfer data from Jupyter to Workbench. And finally, as promised, Tableau will allow us to visualize the data we have been working with. We will prepare several insightful charts and will interpret the results together.","stream","[]","[]","['Machine learning', 'Python (Computer program language)', 'SQL (Computer program language)', 'Electronic data processing', 'Information visualization']","['Instructional films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/content/1010595xxx/1010595650/1010595650-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;4740712" "asp3916129-marc","","The sun came out. 7 worlds collide again","","92 minutes","[]","In 2008 Neil Finn (Crowded House) gathered together musicians from across the globe in New Zealand: Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Johnny Marr (The Smiths), Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien from Radiohead, Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coffin), Lisa Germano, KT Tunstall, and Wilco to record an album of new songs in three weeks with proceeds going to Oxfam. In 1964 they won the international dance competition at the New York Worlds Fair with their display of folkloric dances. Several years later they came back on tour and taped this sampling of their repertory, which reflects the cultural diversity and tribal traditions of the country. Commentary by dance authority Faubion Bowers takes the viewer through a variety of dances, and an interview with the company’s director, who explains that thirteen different tribal and language groups are represented in this group. Dances shown here -- from several different tribal traditions --include celebrating the harvest, welcoming a visitor, acknowledging a benevolent demon, announcing happiness, and marking an important occasion. The Westray mine in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, explodes, instantly killing all 26 men working underground. Mining coal in Pictou County is notoriously dangerous. It claimed the lives of 650 men in the last 100 years, the same number that died fighting in both world wars. But Westray was supposed to be different: a high-tech operation that would finally make coal mining safe. Westray is a brilliant, innovative documentary that re-creates some of the Westray disaster's most harrowing moments. It focuses on the lives of three widows and three miners lucky enough not to be underground that day when the methane and coal dust ignited. But their lives were torn apart by the events. Meet some of the working men, who felt they had no option but to stay on at Westray. And wives, who heard the rumours, saw their men sometimes bloodied from accidents, and stood by them, hoping it would all turn out all right. This film reaches beyond Westray. It's also about working people everywhere--whose lives are often entrusted to companies that violate the most fundamental rules of safety and decency in the name of profit.","stream","[]","['Nova Scotia']","['Westray Mine Disaster, Plymouth, Pictou, N.S., 1992', 'Mining explosions', 'Coal miners']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1004880xxx/1004880291/1004880291-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?VAST;2281052" "asp2374414-envv","","Indian Ocean with Simon Reeve. This troubling film includes an interview with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah ibn Abdul-aziz al-Saud who is effectively the country's ruler. He states that he is unaware of any Saudi funds going to terrorist groups. American attorneys working for the families of victims from September 11, 2001claim otherwise. One attorney, Allan Gerson, is suing Saudi charities, banks and members of the royal family for $2 trillion for allegedly financing the September 11 attacks. He claims to have evidence that money went from Saudi charities, via terrorist cells in Europe, to the Jema ah Islamiah group in Southeast Asia for the Bali bombing, and that they were the same people who funded the Twin Towers attack This film obtained rare access to the ""closed kingdom,"" where we see a country full of frustrated young people - sixty percent under the age of 25 - who are increasingly alienated, both by some in the royal family and perceived American aggression against Muslim countries.","stream","['Qaida (Organization)']","['Saudi Arabia']","['Terrorists', 'Terrorism']","['Documentary']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1003831xxx/1003831142/1003831142-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?FLON;1645974" "asp2370378-blsv","","Tony Brown's journal. Rice, which had always been scarce, has become part of the staple diet. Asia. Episode 2","","54 minutes","['Seven worlds, one planet']","Asia is the largest and most extreme continent on our planet, stretching from the Arctic Circle in the North to the tropical forests on the equator. The animals here face the hottest deserts, tallest jungles and highest mountains found anywhere on Earth. But the continent has not always looked like this. These extreme worlds were created when India collided with the rest of Asia 30 million years ago, shaping the continent as we know it today. Animals here have adapted to the extreme environments in almost unbelievable ways. In the frozen lands of the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia, bears seek out active volcanoes – despite the dangers. And on the Siberian coast, a remarkable spectacle appears for a few weeks during the summer – tens of thousands of walruses haul themselves on to a beach in one of the largest gatherings of mammals seen anywhere in the world. In China, mysterious blue-faced monkeys walk upright through some of the least-explored forests on Earth, whilst the baking deserts of Iran are home to what has to be the world's most bizarre snake. On the barren plateaus of India, garishly coloured lizards fight like miniature kung fu masters as they try to find a mate before they die.The south of the continent couldn't be more different. When India collided with Asia, the Himalayas were formed. These mountains blocked clouds, helping to create the monsoon. Heavy rains fell and tropical forests, full of life, developed to the south. Here, baby orangutans learn to climb the tallest jungle trees on the planet and a female Sumatran rhino - one of the rainforest's rarest inhabitants – sings a mournful and haunting song. Will anyone return her call? These forests - home to thousands of incredible species - are in danger of being lost forever. Under threat from deforestation and human development, today the largest continent on Earth is running out of space for its wildlife. But there's hope in Asia's tropical waters, where endangered whale sharks gather to find food and get a helping hand from a surprising source.","stream","[]","['Asia']","['Biodiversity', 'Animals', 'Natural history']","['Nonfiction television programs', 'Nature television programs', 'Documentary television programs']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/content/1010600xxx/1010600384/1010600384-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;4744632" "asp1776205-rtiv","Cayo, Christine","Feeding and swallowing treatment","2003","1078 min","['ABCs of Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing', 'Rehabilitation therapy in video']","This seminar focuses on decision making for mealtime feeding, management of feeding and swallowing, oral-motor and respiratory treatment strategies that are essential for a functional foundation for successful feeding and swallowing. From the 16th century to 1970, only 1% of the total Amazonian forest was felled, since then 14% of the rainforest has been cut down, and that percentage continues to increase; every eight seconds an area equivalent to a football field is chopped down, set on fire, and turned into pasture or agricultural land. With keen sensitivity to detail and a sharp eye and ear for nuance, the film explores the lives of three teenagers as they come of age in Lowell, Massachusetts. Children of Cambodian refugees, the three teens inhabit a gritty blue-collar American world that is indelibly colored by their parents' nightmares of the Khmer Rouge. Traditional Cambodian dance links each of them to their parents' culture, but fast cars, hip consumerism, and young romance pull them even harder into American popular culture.Their parents fled the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia in the 1970s, trekking through the jungle to refugee camps in Thailand. In the early 1980s, they resettled in Lowell, a historic New England mill city now home to America's second-largest Cambodian community. For these immigrants, Lowell offered hope of safety and employment and a chance to rebuild some of what was shattered by the Khmer Rouge. But for their children, the city offers a dizzying array of choices -- many of them risky. Deftly interweaving scenes of great poignancy and scenes of engaging drama, ""Monkey Dance"" examines how the three teenagers navigate the confusing landscape of urban American adolescence and ultimately start to make good on their parents' dreams.Linda Sou is a freewheeling 17-year-old who struggles to overcome the shame cast on her family when her older sister was imprisoned for murdering an abusive boyfriend. Linda has been dancing since age three, when her father founded the Angkor Dance Troupe in an attempt to preserve traditional Cambodian culture. Over time, Linda is lured away from the dance troupe by the excitement of fast cars and hot dates. Her wild ways intensify until she and a friend are injured in a serious car accident. A trip to Cambodia with her family to meet her village relatives endows Linda with some perspective on her life and a new awareness of her parents' losses and sacrifices.Samnang Hor, an athletic 16-year-old born in a refugee camp in Thailand, is driven to achieve to make up for his two older brothers, who dropped out of high school because of their involvement with gangs and drugs. Sam works hard, and his mentors encourage him to see education as a way out of the ghetto. On the exciting day he receives his college acceptance letters, he also realizes that getting into school is only part of the challenge -- finding money to pay for it may be even more difficult.Sochenda Uch, a lanky, fashion-conscious 16-year-old, works a series of part-time jobs to pay for the necessities and accessories of teen life -- while his mother worries that he doesn't study enough. Hungry to reinvent himself, Sochenda drops out of Angkor Dance Troupe and becomes a backup dancer in a hip Cambodian-American band. Too many distractions soon take their toll: Sochenda's grades start to slide, leading him to be rejected from all the colleges he applies to. Only after another year-and-a-half of hard work does he begin to understand what success or failure means to himself and his family.Dance -- both traditional and modern -- is ultimately what makes a difference for the three teenagers. The Angkor Dance Troupe to which they belong provides rigor and structure in their lives. Sam performs the troupe's signature piece: the Monkey Dance, a traditional tale about a folk hero figure that has been electrified and transformed by Sam's addition of hip-hop choreography. Cambodian dance provides Linda, Sam, and Sochenda with a unique connection to their parents' culture at a time when many children of immigrants reject their traditional culture as irrelevant to their lives in America. By making the dance their own, the three teenagers forge a link with the past while also finding their way in America.","stream","[]","['Cambodia']","['Cambodian American teenagers', 'Dance']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1007608xxx/1007608527/1007608527-disc001-file001-frame01685-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;3190421" "asp3267259-marc","","Indian classical singing. Winter. Episode 3","","51 minutes","[""Earth's great seasons""]","Every year, spectacular seasons transform our planet. These beautiful stand alone films explore the unique opportunities and challenges posed by each season. Spring brings new life, but it's also a dash to wake up and get ahead of everyone else. Summer is a time of long days and glorious abundance. But the living isn't always easy when the temperatures rise. Autumn brings the world's most spectacular transformations. It's also the last chance to breed, to grow up, to stock up before the cold returns. And during winter – the most magical, dramatic season of all – animals find inventive ways to survive. Andrew Scott narrates a special programme which celebrates winter and explores how animals and plants rise to the challenges it brings. We find extraordinary graphic representations on sarcophagi, papyrus scrolls, the walls of tombs and other buildings. They are testimony to a lasting taste for 'the art of the contour', and allow us to understand this ancient civilization like no other. The figure we know less about is the artist himself, the scribe. It was he who was the source of these representations; he who, with a simple stroke of a reed pen or paint brush, gave birth to the entire art of Egypt. Respecting precise codes, the scribe's skills remained unchanged for more than three millennia. They sketched people, signs, plants, animals and geometric figures with a rare visual poetry, like a writer, a scientist, a sociologist or an artist. In this film, we will discover who these scribes really were, and their importance for the society of the Pharaohs. Repeated exposure with the support of a therapist seems to desensitize people to the object of their irrational fear. Dr. Jerome Kagan demonstrates that infants with a predisposition to these disorders can be identified early on. He contrasts babies who react with anxiety to new stimuli to others who react calmly. Members of the latter group become the more adventurous and social as they grow up. Also covered are obsessive compulsive disorders and post traumatic stress disorder and their treatments. Among the other experts featured are: Dr. David Barlow, Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders, Boston; Randy Frost, clinical psychologist, Smith College; and Dr. Michael Otto, Massachusetts General Hospital. Their treatments have helped patients to live more normal and productive lives.","stream","[]","['Treatment']","['Social phobia', 'Obsessive-compulsive disorder', 'Phobias', 'Anxiety']","['Documentary films']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1003831xxx/1003831875/1003831875-disc001-file001-frame00165-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?FLON;2774566" "asp2304497-ctv3","","Customizing mental health treatment","2012","65 min","['Tough customers : treating clients with challenging issues', 'Counseling and therapy in video, volume 3']","Explore how to match treatment approaches with client characteristics to avoid treatment stalemates by understanding: Assessment for Six Key Client Characteristics; Reactance: Defiance vs. Compliance; Coping Style: Internalizers vs. Externalizers; Stage of Change: Precontemplation, Contemplation, Action; Other Characteristics: Religion/Spirituality, Culture, and Preferences.","stream","[]","[]","['Psychotherapy', 'Mental health', 'Patient refusal of treatment', 'Therapist and patient']","['Filmed interviews']","https://d3crmev290s45i.cloudfront.net/frames/1005024xxx/1005024399/1005024399-disc001-file001-frame00180-size-exact-570x350.jpg","https://www.remote.uwosh.edu/login?url=http://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?CTIV;2304497" "asp3293328-marc","","Videofashion news. After Ahmose I expelled the Hyksos from Lower Egypt, a policy of empire building began, reaching its greatest height during the reign of Thutmose III. During this time, the Amun Re cult became the state religion, and pharaohs went to war 'at the command of Amun', building temples and monuments to the God. As well, the controversial female, Hatshepsut, became Pharaoh. Akhenaten overturned Egypt's entire religious system by declaring Aten as the only God, during what is called the Amarna Revolution. By the time of the Ramesside Period, religious order and stability had been restored, with Ramesses II ruling Egypt for sixty-five years. Their decision to stay on at the river is a little mysterious, almost as if the place itself is exerting some kind of magic over them. When the men finally return home to Jindabyne, and report finding the body, all hell breaks loose. Stewart is not convinced that he has done anything wrong. Claire's faith in her relationship with her husband is shaken to the core. The fishermen, their wives and their children are suddenly haunted by their own bad spirits.
