The TRIO SSS First Year Experience (FYE)

Our FYE Leaders assist first-year students in making the successful transition to college through academic skills building, integration to campus, leadership development, service learning, and related social events. Two upper-class TRIO SSS/SSS STEM students serve as the leaders for each weekly group. The FYE Group sessions take place in Dempsey Hall every week.

FYE is a required component of TRIO SSS and opens to door to plenty of benefits, including our first year scholarship!

We are here to help YU!

FYE Leaders and TRIO Ambassadors

Meet the Leaders

I am a 3rd year student at UWO majoring in Rehabilitation Science within Kinesiology. I plan to continue onto Graduate School to earn a Master’s in Athletic Training.

In my free time, I love to listen to music, go on walks, build Legos, watch movies and sports, and hang out with my family and friends. I am excited to be a TRIO FYE Leader this year and look forward to getting to know everyone!

Kinesiology (Rehab Science) Major

I’m a fourth-year Social Work major here at UW Oshkosh and am excited to be a returning Leader for the 25-26 year! When I’m not immersed in schoolwork or working with TRIO, you’ll find me outdoors, enjoying hiking, camping, canoeing, and all things nature. I’m also a proud bug enthusiast and plan to raise my own butterflies this spring!

In my downtime, I love playing Minecraft with friends or relaxing with Stardew Valley. I’m a mac and cheese connoisseur and a baking enthusiast, so feel free to chat with me about recipes or your favorite treats!

Looking forward to meeting and growing with you all this school year!

I am a third year Sociology major. I’m involved in multiple campus organizations, including Sociology Club and NAACP. I had the privilege of working with Dr. Heidi Nichols on ethnographic research about freshwater initiatives in Wisconsin.

My name is Amanda and my hometown is Appleton, WI. I am currently in my second year at UWO. I am a Medical Imaging major with a Radiologic Science Emphasis. I am so excited about being a First Year Experience leader this year. TRIO has given me the opportunity to connect with so many people, and I can’t wait to meet even more people. I love helping people in any way that I can, and please never be afraid to reach out, I love answering questions because I had so many questions when I was new. No question is dumb because 9 times out of 10 you aren’t the only one with that question.

When I’m not studying, I enjoy shopping, hanging out with friends, thrifting, and watching TV. Right now, I’m currently watching Bones and The Summer I Turned Pretty (I am Team Conrad in case you were wondering). I am so excited to get to know everyone and my goal this semester is to get to know more people and learn about a resource on campus that I wasn’t aware of before.

My name is Emma. I am so excited to work with TRIO SSS FYE this year. Last year, TRIO was so good for me and I made so many new friends. I am a sophomore this year working towards nursing as my major. I love to play piano, go outside, be near water and much more! I have many many animals but I love my kitten the most!! I love to bake as well 🙂 My favorite drink EVER is probably an iced brown sugar chai tea latte from Starbucks.

Pre-Nursing Major

Hi! I’m a second-year student majoring in Special Education with a minor in American Sign Language. A fun fact about me is that ever since I got home from my very first day of kindergarten, I knew I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher — and now I’m chasing that dream! I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to turn that childhood goal into a reality.

When I’m not studying or working, I love cooking and baking, getting lost in a good book, spending time outdoors, hanging out with animals, or rewatching my favorite comfort shows.

I’m super excited to support first-generation students as they navigate college life and help them feel confident and equipped to thrive here at UWO!

Special Education Major

I am a 2nd year Pre-Nursing student, and I hope to work in an ER/Trauma center once I graduate and maybe return to studies to become an NP. As a Leader, I am excited to get to know everyone and help them in their journey through college.

When I’m not studying, I like to meet up with friends and family, play video games, play pickleball, and hike. I have traveled a lot growing up, but I would love to one day go to Europe, specifically Norway, Germany, and Italy.
