Apply to a program

To apply to a UW Oshkosh graduate program in the Department of Literacy and Language access the UW System’s graduate application system by clicking the application button on the right.

The UW System application will include requests for the following:

• Original transcripts from all previous degrees.
• A copy of your teaching license.
• Names and contact information of 3 people who will provide a letter of reference (except for the Literacy Coaching Certificate program, which requires only 1 reference). Note that you do not submit the letters of reference yourself.
• A brief statement of your goals for graduate studies.
• A $56 nonrefundable application fee.

The UW System application will ask you to select the program you are applying to. Read the descriptions of the graduate programs on this website before choosing, then refer to the chart below.

In addition to applying via the UW System application, you must obtain a criminal background check.  To begin the DCF background check process, visit the ichildcare portal and click on the “Create a Logon” link in the blue box.  The fee for this background check is $40 and is payable when you get your fingerprint taken. There is also an automatic annual renewal check each year.  The $10 renewal fee is paid by SOEHS and reimbursement will be requested from you. The background check fees are not refundable. Once you have completed your fingerprint appointment, please contact Tammy Mastey in the SOEHS Administrative Office at masteyt@uwosh.edu to let her know your fingerprint is complete as we do not automatically receive them and this is the only way for your CBC to be viewed by SOEHS.
