Death, Dying, and Bereavement

Students enrolled in this course will be examining issues of death, dying, and bereavement in an experiential fashion. The course is designed to introduce students to the field of end-of-life care by assisting them in confronting their own concerns about the death, dying, and bereavement process. It examines the historical, cultural, societal, and personal perspectives of death and dying in modern society.

The course will introduce students to the following topics: 1). Cultural and historical perspectives on death and dying, as well as grief and loss; 2). Reactions to death and dying among children, adolescents, adults, and older adults; 3). Theoretical premises related to death and dying; 4). Issues related to personal death anxiety and death phobia and strategies to address these issues; 5). Coping mechanisms and self-care strategies of professionals who work in the field; 6). The roles of different professionals who work within the death and dying field, and 7). Issues related to grief, loss, and bereavement.

This course will examine issues related to both healthcare and mental health as related to death, dying, and bereavement. Sign up now while there are still remaining slots.
