Join us for our First-Gen College Tri-Alpha Honors Society Induction during which we celebrate first-gen success!
If you are a first-generation college student interested in being inducted on Thrusday, November 6, 2025, please complete this form by Monday, October 6. Interested students are also encouraged to reach out to Cordelia Bowlus at bowlusc@uwosh.edu.
What is Tri-Alpha?
Tri-Alpha is a national honors society which celebrates first-generation college students' success.
In November 2022, UWO became the home to the Zeta-Theta chapter of the Tri-Alpha Honors Society. As of April 8, 2025 we inducted our first 198 members.
Tri-Alpha Honors Society holds induction ceremonies each semester.
To be considered for Tri-Alpha Honor Society membership this fall, you must
- be enrolled at least half-time (six credit hours),
- be pursuing an associate’s or bachelor's degree,
- have earned at least 30 credits,
- have a 3.2 cumulative GPA (3.5 if you are a graduate student who was a first-gen as an undergraduate),
- have completed one semester at UWO or one of our two access campuses: UW Fox and UW Fond du Lac.
Lifetime membership dues are $25. This includes the induction ceremony certificates, pins, and upon graduation, students who maintain a 3.2 receive Tri-Alpha Honors cords.
Advantages of being a lifetime member of Tri-Alpha:
- Tri-Alpha pin and certificate: Lifetime membership and outward recognition of personal accomplishments
- Tri-Alpha honors cords for graduating seniors who have maintained a 3.2 or higher: An incentive for continued scholarship.
- Tri-Alpha as a resume booster: Identifies you to employers, professionals, and graduate schools as a person of superior academic ability and commitment
- Tri-Alpha first-gen mentor: Ability to mentor younger first-generation students
- Tri-Alpha leadership: The UWO First-Generation College Student Org
Expectations: Being a member of Tri-Alpha comes with no strings attached.
Ideally, we would love to see you leverage your experience as first-generation college student to support other first-generation students, whether it is through mentorship or as a leader in the UWO First-Generation Student Organization. The primary purpose of this organization is to promote first-generation college pride and to plan a celebration the week of November 8, National First-Gen College Day. If you wish to be inducted in April, 8 2025, please e-mail Cordelia Bowlus bowlusc@uwosh.edu or complete this form.

Art Against the Odds Talk and Reception

Allen Priebe Gallery
OSH - Allen Priebe Student Gallery Board
Art Against the Odds: Wisconsin Prison Art
Allen Priebe Gallery, Arts and Communications Center room N102
Curator’s Talk: October 23, 5 – 6 pm, AC S149
Reception: October 23, 6 – 7:30 pm, Allen Priebe Gallery Lobby
This exhibition features artists who turned to creative production to mitigate the de-humanizing conditions of incarceration. The exhibition is divided into thematic sections: solitary confinement, landscapes, portraits, letter writing, scarcity of materials, and time/seriality.
Curated by Debra Brehmer owner of Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art in Milwaukee, WI, the exhibition gives voice and visibility to individuals currently held in the state’s carceral system as well as illustrates the potential healing properties of an art practice. With few instructional art programs offered in the prison system, these individuals teach themselves through various means, often working with limited materials. The exhibition explores how art becomes a vehicle to develop self-esteem, self-awareness, regulate emotions, and explore multi-faceted aspects of identity. The exhibition underscores the humanity of incarcerated individuals and their potential beyond criminal records.
The exhibition will be in the Allen Priebe Gallery October 23 - November 25
Gallery Hours:
Monday - Wednesday: 11 am - 3 pm
Thursday: 11 am - 3 pm, 6 - 7:30 pm
Saturday: 2 - 4 pm
Free and open to all.
