Scholarships

The psychology department offers students four scholarships:

  1. George R. Soika Scholarship Fund
  2. Dr. Roy and Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship Fund
  3. Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship Fund
  4. Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship Fund

Please note, Beatrice Barlow Lampert and Phillip D. Lampert Scholarship and Bowman Scholarship are also open to Psychology Students.

When applying, you need to prepare:

1) Current STAR report;

2) Short essay (less than 1,000 words) discussing:

  1. educational and career plans, including whether you plan to attend graduate school in psychology.
  2. how your experiences outside of college classes (e.g., research, volunteer, work, club activities) have contributed to your educational experience. This is particularly important for the Kogutek Scholarship.
  3. financial need.

3) Two faculty recommendations (at least one must be from a psychology faculty member).

George R. Soika Scholarship

The George R. Soika Scholarship Fund will award ONE $1,700 scholarship payable toward tuition the following fall. Applicants must:

  • Be full-time enrolled Psychology major
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have two to four semesters remaining at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Be able to demonstrate breadth of interest within and beyond psychology
  • Have a GPA of 3.4 or better

Dr. Roy and Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship

The Dr. Roy and Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship Fund will award TWO $1,000 scholarships payable toward tuition the following fall. Applicants must:

  • Be a sophomore or junior majoring in psychology
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrate financial need

Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship

The Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship Fund will award TWO $1,500 scholarships to two female psychology majors payable toward tuition the following fall. The family designated this scholarship for female students in honor of the donor’s grandmother who was never able to obtain an education. Applicants must:

  • Be a psychology major (full or part time)
  • Have two to four semesters remaining at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Have a GPA of 3.00 or better
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be planning to attend graduate school in psychology

If the student who receives this scholarship is accepted into the graduate program in psychology at the UW Oshkosh, she is eligible for an additional $2,000 to be applied to tuition in the first semester of full-time graduate study.

Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship

The Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship Fund will award ONE $2,000 scholarship payable toward tuition the following fall. Participation in University-wide extra-curricular activities (excluding athletics) will be a strong consideration in this award. Applicants must:

  • Be a full-time enrolled psychology major
  • Have two to four semesters remaining at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have a GPA of 3.00 or better
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field of psychology
  • Be planning to attend graduate study in psychology

2019 Scholarship Recipients

Brant Sanderfoot: Dr. Roy and Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship ($1000)

  • Brant Sanderfoot, age 20, is a second year undergraduate Psychology Major. His personal aspirations involve helping children with physical or mental disabilities. The knowledge and experiences gained will be applied daily and will benefit his future career goals to become an occupational therapist or school psychologist. He enjoys being involved in the psychology Club as well as the Physical and Occupational Therapy Society on campus. During the school year he is a tutor and also coaches track and field at his hometown high school. During the summers, he works as a lifeguard and teaches swim lessons to children. He especially enjoys having individualized swim lessons with children that have special needs because of the personal relationship which is formed over the summer. He appreciates the support from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and is truly grateful.

Bailey Young: Dr. Roy Geraldene Dixon-Robinson Scholarship ($1000)

  • Bailey Young is a junior at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. Since Bailey’s arrival at the university, she’s been involved in the university, from volunteering, attending club meetings, becoming a part of executive boards, participating in researching, and representing the university across seas. This past summer, Bailey was a McNair scholar focusing her research on Cranial Shape Variation Within True Dolphins “Delphininae”. During this experience she was able to work with the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. along with utilizing equipment that most undergraduates don’t have the opportunity of working with. In her free time, she enjoys working out, spending time with family, and conducting research. After Bailey graduates from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, she plans to go directly to medical school and plans on being a general surgeon.

Noelle Fenwick: George R. Soika Scholarship ($1700)

  • Noelle Fenwick, 21, is a Junior at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Women's & Gender Studies. Fenwick is a member of the University Honors College, the University Honors Student Association, and Psi Chi, among others. Noelle is passionate about the prevention and education surrounding sexual violence. She hopes to attend graduate school that will prepare her to combat the current epidemic of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Kylie Moe: Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship ($1500)

  • Kylie Moe, 20, is a junior at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh majoring in psychology with plans to graduate in December 2019. She has been involved on campus by being in psychology club, Psi Chi, The National Society of Leadership and Success, a CAR tutor, a USP Peer Mentor, an undergraduate research assistant, and a member of the Honors College. After obtaining her bachelor's degree from UW Oshkosh, her goal is to attend graduate school to become a licensed school psychologist. She has really enjoyed her time at UW Oshkosh and feels that the university has given her many wonderful opportunities and has well-prepared her for the future.

Samara Markle: Som N. Ghei and Ram Kaur Ghei Scholarship ($1500)

  • Samara Markle is currently a sophomore with a major in psychology and a minor in neuroscience. She is a member of the University's Honors College and participates as an undergraduate research assistant. Her plans after receiving her Bachelor's degree include going on to receive her Master's degree and her Doctorate in psychology. She aspires to help those afflicted by mental illness through running her own lab as a research psychologist.

Grace Hudson: Michael D. Kogutek Scholarship ($2000)

  • I am currently a Junior planning on graduating with a degree in Psychology from UW-Oshkosh. As a non-traditional student with two children, I work hard to balance all areas of life while maintaining a strong GPA and while pursuing independent research opportunities. I have presented research the past two years at the Association for Psychological Science Annual Convention, worked as a research assistant for the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac, and tutored for Psychology and Statistics. Additionally, I have been the lead researcher of an independent research project as part of the Living Lab, an interactive research experience done in collaboration with the Fond du Lac Children's Museum. Following graduation I plan to attend graduate school with a degree in either Cognitive, Clinical, or Counseling Psychology.
