Political Science Major Requirements and Planning Sheet
Eligibility: To be eligible for graduation, students must meet all requirements for the degree being sought in addition to earning a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all courses required in the Political Science major or minor. Those seeking Wisconsin teacher certification must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.00 in all courses required for their majors and minors in order to meet the requirements of the School of Education and Human Services.
Required Credits: 36 Required Courses: Political Science 101, 105, 115, 245 and 401 (Political Science 101, 105, 115 are the introductory courses; 245 is the methods course, and 401 is the senior capstone course). The remaining 21 credits are to include one course each from the 3 different sub-fields in groups 1 – 3 (groups 4 & 5 will count as electives towards the major) – (see PS Major Planning Sheet).

Political Science Minor Requirements and Planning Sheet
Required Credits: 21 Required Courses: Political Science 101, 105 and 115. The remaining 12 credits may be completed by taking courses in any of the subgroups (see PS Minor Planning Sheet)

Law & Policy Minor Requirements and planning sheet
Required Credits: 21 Required Courses: Political Science 105 and 253. The remaining 15 credits may be completed by taking elective courses in the Minor – (see Law and Policy Minor Planning Sheet).

Civic Engagement Minor Requirements
Required Credits: 21 Required Courses: Political Science 108 or American Government and Politics 105 or 113 The Democratic Arena
Required Experience: A 3-credit internship; or 3-credit service learning experience; or a 3-credit study abroad experience (any one would have to be approved by the Civic Engagement Minor Coordinator). The remaining 15 credits may be completed by taking elective courses in the Minor. No more than six (6) credits may be taken from any one department – (see Civic Engagement Minor Planning Sheet).

Program Waitlist Instructions
When a course is full: students should use the TitanWeb wait-list feature to join the queue for a seat. A yellow triangle in the class “Status” column indicates that a waitlist is available.
How to Join a Waitlist:
- Log into TitanWeb.
- Go to the “Academics” tab and click “Search”.
- Select the appropriate term.
- Enter the subject and course number, uncheck “Show Open Only”, and click “Search”.
- Look for a yellow triangle in the “Status” column.
- Select the course, check the “Wait list if class is full” box, and click “Next”.
- In your shopping cart, select the wait-listed class and click “Enroll”.
- Click “Finish Enrolling” to confirm your wait-list status.
Waitlist Management:
- The School Department Assistant is responsible for monitoring closed classes with active waitlists.
- When a seat becomes available, the School Department Assistant will notify the next student in line via their UWO email with enrollment instructions.
- Students have 24 hours from the time the email is sent (unless otherwise specified) to enroll.
- If a student does not enroll within the time frame, they will be removed from the waitlist.
- Students removed from the waitlist may rejoin but will be placed at the end of the list.
Additional Notes:
- All course prerequisites must be met to join a waitlist.
- The class section must be full before the waitlist is activated.
- Instructors cannot enroll students directly.
- Not all courses have wait-lists. If no waitlist is available, consider enrolling in an alternate course as a backup.
