The Oshkosh Police Department along with personnel from the UW Oshkosh Police Department, and Wisconsin State Patrol responded to an incident involving shots fired earlier this evening near McKinley Avenue and John Street.  

A suspect is in custody, and the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. There is no ongoing threat to the campus community at this time.

OSHKOSH, WI (April 11, 2026): At 7:08 p.m., the Oshkosh Police Department received reports of multiple shots fired in the area of McKinley Avenue and John Street in the City of Oshkosh. Officers already working in the area due to an unsanctioned pub crawl also heard the gunfire. A 17-year-old Oshkosh resident was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Assisted by deputies from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Police Department, and troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol, an extensive search for the suspect was immediately conducted. Officers also deployed a drone and multiple K-9s to assist in the search.
At 7:58 p.m., 50 minutes after the initial reports of gunfire, the suspect was observed attempting to leave the area in a vehicle. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop at Jackson Street and Irving Avenue, and the suspect, a 23-year-old man from Omro, was safely taken into custody without further incident. This investigation remains active, and criminal charges are pending.
