As we begin a new semester, our hearts and minds are heavy with recent stories from across the country. Tragic acts of violence and the confusion created by hoax threats fill our news feeds and social media. These situations are frustrating, sad, and deeply impactful to everyone who is or has someone heading off to school. At the same time, these situations remind me of the responsibility we share to prepare and protect one another.
At UW Oshkosh, safety is our top priority. We have established protocols and resources that are available to you right now:
These resources matter most when we use them together. At UW Oshkosh, your Police Department leads the way forward, but safety is something we all create as a community. That means being aware of our surroundings, working together, and speaking up when someone might need help or resources.
While these conversations often come up in response to serious situations, their impact goes far beyond emergencies. When we build stronger relationships, lean in to support one another, and take the time to look out for each other, our entire community benefits.
Preparedness isn’t just about reacting to what could happen; it’s about shaping a culture of care and connection right now. As we begin this semester, let’s commit to awareness, support, and shared responsibility. Together, we are stronger and together, we keep UW Oshkosh safe.
