Origins

Wisconsin Linking Education and Practice for Excellence in Public Health Nursing, a grant (DHHS/HRSA D11HP07731) obtained by Dr. Zahner at U.W. Madison is responsible for helping to form academic and practice collaboratives throughout the state. It was through this grant and the efforts of the LEAP Academic Practice Liaison Judith Hansen, this project was made possible.

In the collaborative spirit of public health nursing, representatives from all public health departments and  community/public health nursing faculty are working to improve links between public health and academia, and improve the preparation and continuing education of public health nurses in the state to increase knowledge and skills in providing population based, culturally competent public health nursing services.

The original website (a wiki) arose out of the Northeast Collaborative NEWLEAP which included academic and practice partners.  The actual website was created by U.W. Oshkosh College of Nursing through the efforts Jill Collier, campus instructional media support, Brian Ledwell along with Judith Hansen, Wisconsin Linking Education and Practice Liaison. Edits, review and feedback were provided by the NEWLEAP collaborative with special acknowledgment practice partner Mary Jo Turner, PHN Coordinator at Winnebago County Department of Public Health.

The Student Project Database was included in the grant renewal and is now a part of the state wide grant.
