Edward Tulane Orchestral Suite
Joe Sandy
Senior, Music Composition
Abstract
I composed a five-movement orchestral suite inspired by the events in Kate DiCamillo’s award-winning novel, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. The project has five major components that make up the compositional process: score study and analysis, theme generation, short score composition, orchestration, and engraving. This process must be undertaken for each of the five movements of the suite to ensure that the overall form of the entire work is coherent, and the music is enjoyable to listen to. All five movements are either in the orchestration phase or engraving phase and will be completed by May.
