About The Process

Getting the song to its final version took a total of 4 years. Over those years we probably recorded the song 5 times before settling on a version that made us happy. The recording process was relatively simple after we’d decided on a solid vision. We recorded the core instrumental (Piano, Guitar, Drums, and Bass) then popped the vocals in to give us a solid idea of what quirks we could slip in to really make the song shine. Initially, the vocals were recorded using an AKG c414 but after some consideration and a first draft mix we decided to rerecord the vocals with a brighter sounding mic. We settled on an ADK that has a brilliant bite to it which helped the vocals punch through the mix a bit more. After the new vocals were mixed the song was nearly complete. All that was left to do was add those quirks I was talking about. We added some auxiliary percussion, ad libs, claps, snaps and to cap it all off, we added a sample of an afternoon in kettle moraine state forest where the birds were singing like there was no tomorrow.
