The Recording Studio Procedures class gives students the opportunity to learn the process of recording a variety of instruments, with an emphasis on signal flow, mic placement and essential recording techniques.
The various units of hands-on study this semester included recording grand piano, stringed instruments (such as viola, cello, bass, guitar, and mandolin), brass and winds, and drums.
This course is also the first chance for students to spend time independently in the studio and record several projects. There was an excellent variety of final projects, which featured a four-part vocal chorus, jazz groups, and original modern rock and alternative style songs. The students made a lot of progress in their understanding of the studio, and that experience will open the door for many more project opportunities moving forward.
