For Acceptance as a Music Major or Minor in the 2025-2026 Academic Year

 

Please review the Audition Information page for audition times. Audition registration closes two weeks before each in-person date.

Note: Scholarship auditions must take place on or before March 1, 2025.

When offered, mid-year entry is only for transfers and current students.

Voice Accompanist Services

An accompanist is required for all voice auditions. You may request us to provide one for a $25 fee, or enlist your own. Online/video auditions are permitted to use a pre-recorded track.

Scholarship Applicants

You will need to send the UW Oshkosh Department of Music Audition Committee a letter of recommendation from your private instructor or choir/band/orchestra director that addresses your musical background and ability. This letter must be in the Department of Music office no later than two weeks before your audition date.

Music Theory and Keyboard Skills

Applicants will be required to complete an online music theory assessment as part of the audition process. The results will be used for class placement only and won't be used in admissions decisions.

In addition, applicants will be requested to fill out an online keyboard questionnaire prior to their audition. Applicants without a keyboard background will be placed into beginning class piano. Applicants with previous keyboard experience will be placed into the appropriate course according to the results of the questionnaire. A placement exam may be required for those with significant keyboard experience. This placement exam will be given at the beginning of the semester and will include sight-reading and an assessment of fundamental keyboard skills.
