These databases may provide some background information for your topic of research to help you gain a base level of understanding.

After you gain a background understanding of your topic, now you will want to begin carefully selecting your search terms and doing in-depth scholarly research. Before you tackle subject specific databases, it may be helpful to check a database that covers multiple subject areas. Make sure that you are choosing to apply the 'Peer-Reviewed' filter (may also be called Scholarly or Academic Journals).
Academic Search Complete contains full text, indexing and abstracts, monographs and reports from more than 13,000 publications.
JSTOR is a digital library of academic journals, books, and primary sources.
If your topic falls under a specific topic, you will get the best results if you search databases that are specifically for that subject. Remember to check the box that says scholarly or peer-reviewed articles.
Social
Contains over 2 million records from 1,200 core journals including full text from 700 journals.
Provides citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, and technical reports in the field of psychology and related disciplines.
STEM
Search for references and cited references in the Social Sciences Citation Index, Science Citation Index and Arts & Humanities Citation Index.

Religious
ATLA Religion Database combines the premier index to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion with ATLA's online collection of major religion and theology journals.
Educational
ERIC, the Education Resource Information Center, provides access to more than 1.3 million records related to education literature and resources.
Education Research Complete provides indexing and abstracts for more than 2,100 journals, as well as full text for more than 1,200 journals, books, and monographs.
MLA Style
Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) MLA Formatting and Style Guide
The Purdue OWL site is a comprehensive MLA reference tool, with instructions on in-text citations, works cited entries, and a sample paper.
The MLA Style Center is an official website of the MLA. It provides guidelines for formatting papers, a quick guide to works cited entries, and answers to frequently asked questions.
APA Style

The Purdue OWL website provides guidelines for using APA style as well as examples for various entries.
The official blog about APA Style by the American Psychological Association. This blog is a great resource for hard to answer citation questions.
If you are unable to find a doi for your article, check Crossref.org and click 'Search Metadata' where you can put the title of the article.
