The Government Information Division of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is located on the third floor of the south side of Polk Library. Polk Library is located at the intersection of Elmwood and Lincoln Avenues. Entry to the library is from the mall which runs between Elmwood and Algoma avenues.
The library houses a selection of federal documents and historical runs of many noteworthy government publications. The Government Information division includes a collection of government maps and atlases and privately published atlases. Polk library is currently in the process of the disposition of most federal publications so access to these materials will be limited in the near future.
The Government Information Division is also a depository for State of Wisconsin documents and selected government documents from states bordering Wisconsin. In addition, this division of the library houses United Nations documents and documents from the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.
Polk Library provides access to government information in both print and electronic format, including electronic documents on the Internet and locally held CD/DVD Roms. The area has computer workstations, and Government Information staff can provide expert assistance in researching online information from across federal and state government agencies.
Most of the documents available in the Government Information department can be checked out to patrons for 28 days at the Main Circulation desk on first floor south. Items can be returned at the first floor circulation area and at the Government Information desk on third floor.
