Reference & Instruction librarians teach information literacy classes and assist faculty, staff and students
with research. Faculty and staff may contact these librarians to develop and implement information literacy
instruction most appropriate to the needs of the course. We can help students understand the research process,
learn to locate and evaluate scholarly materials, avoid plagiarism and effectively use information. You may also
request a personal research
consultation, and a librarian will help you one-on-one with your research need. We can
assist you with both on-campus and online learning classes. Use the Chat button on the main site 24/7 to contact
a librarian for research help.

The UW Oshkosh Archives and Area Research Center (ARC) houses the unique and rare research materials owned or managed
by Polk Library. In addition to the historical records of the University, the department holds the local history
collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society that are focused on a geographic region including Dodge, Fond du Lac,
Green Lake, Marquette, and Winnebago counties. Also found here are unique special book collections, including the
libraries of documentary filmmaker Pare Lorentz as well as the Buckstaff astronomy collection.

Located behind the Circulation Desk, the staff in this area are responsible for checking out all circulating materials
and ensuring that they get returned to the shelves shortly after their return to the library. We take care of
maintaining the order of the materials shelved here and making sure everything fits on the shelves. We facilitate
access to materials owned by other UW System Libraries and libraries worldwide, through Interlibrary Loan.
The staff in this department also process materials on reserve for courses, provide assistance to patrons in locating
materials in the building and much more.
