Students
Join our vibrant community where students say they feel “at home.” The department helps students grow their professional skills while developing meaningful relationships with peers, faculty and professionals in the field. Students can rely on many department and university resources to help reach their goals.
In addition to writing and visual skills, presentation and design projects are incorporated into assignments so students can present their work with confidence for class, internships and future careers. Each course prepares students to develop skills as professionals to work at media organizations, corporations, nonprofits, public relations agencies and creative firms.
Check out our “one-sheet wonder” info sheet to get a helpful overview of the department.
What do I do if a class is full?
The journalism department maintains waiting lists for courses at the 200 level and above. Students will be contacted if seats open to see if students want the open seats.
If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Giddings (giddingsm@uwosh.edu) or Angelee Hammond (hammond@uwosh.edu), or visit them in Sage 3464 and 4461.
Scholarships
The Department of Advertising, multimedia journalism and public relations offers students the opportunity to apply for eight department scholarships. Students are also encouraged to apply for several state and national scholarships.

“My classroom experience in the Advertising, multimedia journalism and public relations department set me up for success when I interned in Los Angeles. The writing and pitching skills I learned easily translated into my internship. Without the help and confidence from my professors, I would not have been able to have an experience of a lifetime in the heart of entertainment.”
