United We Stand

The UW Oshkosh Veterans Resource Center in partnership with the Counseling Center announce #UnitedWeStand a mental health awareness campaign encouraging veterans to take the first steps toward open and honest conversations about mental health.

Why is this important?

  • The statistics are grim. On average, approximately 10 veterans in  Wisconsin die by suicide every month—nearly twice the national overall rate.
  • Statistics show U.S. veterans make up 7% of the population but comprise 14% of suicides annually. The Veterans Administration reports about 20 U.S. veterans die by suicide every day.
  • Veterans suffer greater mental health and chronic health conditions than their civilian counterparts, according to research.

Veteran mental health is a priority and UW Oshkosh veterans are standing united to help each other in the challenge.

Throughout the next couple of weeks fellow veterans will share their journeys and talk about why seeking mental health assistance is important.

We encourage everyone to get the help you need when you need it. The Veterans Resource Center and the Counseling Center are here to connect you to the resources you need on campus or throughout the community.
