Learning Outcome 1: Students will be able to identify and utilize academic and enriching educational resources

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Complete MAP-Works survey and review the results
• Meet with your Academic Advisor (classes to schedule, develop an academic plan, or review your STAR report)
• Talk to an instructional staff or faculty member about an assignment or exam after class or during office hours
• Attend at least one educational presentation outside of class that applies to your academic goals
• Explore internships and study abroad opportunities
• Seek support for test anxiety

Learning Outcome 2: Students will be able to understand and apply effective study skills with course work

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Join or create study group
• Attend a Study Skills Workshop
• Talk to an instructional staff or faculty member about an assignment or exam after class or during office hours
• Attend a SI (supplemental instruction) session or meet with a tutor, free through the Center for Academic Resources (CAR), Math Lab, or Reading/Study Center
• Practice academic engagement through regular attendance and participation in classes

Engagement

Learning Outcome 3: Students will be able to name, select, and participate in hall, campus, and off-campus events

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Participate in campus traditions such as Taste of Oshkosh, Homecoming, Winter Carnival, Shamrock Shuffle, athletic events, Titan Nights, Hands on Oshkosh, Fall Fest or Relay for Life
• Participate in a hall-sponsored volunteer program
• Register for and participate in an intramural sport
• Attend a meeting or event sponsored by a club or organization within your major or an area of interest

Learning Outcome 4: Students will be familiar and acquainted with other residents; and feel valued and supported as a residence hall community member

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Introduce yourself to at least five other residents on your floor
• Attend a student organization or hall council meeting or event
• Attend a floor or hall event or activity
• Take the opportunity to get to know hall staff and hall leaders

Diversity and Inclusion

Learning Outcome 5: Students will be able to have or create meaningful interactions, connections, and relationships with people different from themselves

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Attend an event or presentation about an identity or culture other than your own, like Taste of Nations, Special Olympics, SAFE Training etc.
• Engage with others in a respectful manner, regardless of agreement of values or identity
• Visit the Center for Equity and Diversity, the Women’s Center, the Veterans Affair Office or the Multicultural Education Center

Learning Outcome 6: Students will be able to recognize differences among others and understand that values and beliefs other than their own are not wrong, just different

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Attend or volunteer at events like Tunnel of Oppression, the Diversity and Leadership Conference, Pride Week, Disability Awareness Week, Social Justice Week, etc.
• Self-reflect upon your personal values and perceptions and how you interact with those different than yourself
• Attend an event or presentation that challenges your values
• Engage with others in a respectful manner, regardless of agreement of values or identity
• Educate yourself on current news and events, including multiple perspectives on issues

Personal Development

Learning Outcome 7: Students will take ownership of personal decisions and consequences

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Thoroughly complete documents such as the Room Condition Inventory (RCI), Roommate Agreement, and consolidation paperwork
• Attend all conduct meetings and complete sanctions if applicable
• Demonstrate community pride by confronting negative behavior that directly impacts the community such as vandalism, bullying, littering, or pranking
• Participate in a Student Recreation and Wellness Center class, program, or challenge
• Practice healthy eating behaviors, healthy physical activity, and safe and consensual sexual behavior
• Read your uwosh email daily
• Sincerely apologize to a peer if needed
• Maintain a positive online presence with social media

Learning Outcome 8: Students will develop skills in time management, personal financial management, and problem solving

We encourage second year students to TAKE HOLD of some of these possible opportunities:

• Attend events on independent living like Moving On, Moving Off program, a Horizon Village Tour or Information Session, Housing Fair, etc.
• Revise your resume
• Exhibit effective time management skills by balancing academic responsibilities with co-curricula activities, friends/family, and work
• Pay bills and/or create a personal budget
• Access campus resources to manage personal needs (Counseling Center, Center for Balance, Financial Aid, Career & Professional Development, Legal Services, etc.)
• Proactively respond to problems
• Establish a support group (friends, family, peers) at UWO
• Navigate complex personal conflicts
