• Applying to graduate/complete is only available if your degree Admission to Candidacy form and/or certificate Verification of Program Study form has been approved by your program AND the Graduate Studies Office.  Be in touch with your program or the Graduate Studies Office if you have any concerns or questions about this eligibility requirement.
• The graduation application must be submitted no later than the end of the 1st week of a summer semester, or the end of the 4th week of a spring/fall semester in the semester, in which you intend to graduate/complete.
• Check your application information through your Self-Service Student Center in TitanWeb.  You can verify your diploma name, diploma address, semester of graduation/completion, degree/certificate emphasis, and other information.
• Certificate and GAP recipients do not take part in commencement.
• The official end of spring semester is June, summer semester is August and fall semester is January

Once you’re eligible to graduate/complete, completing the application for graduation/completion is up to you.  Not doing so means exclusion from or errors in the commencement program may be the result of you not accurately completing all steps for applying to graduate/complete.

A graduation/completion check for students who’ve applied will be done by the Student Status Examiner in the Graduate Studies Office.  This audit is completed in phases.  The sooner you apply the quicker the audit can be completed to ensure you’ll graduate/complete on-time.  Final degree conferral processing for each student happens once all grades for the semester of intended graduation/completion have been submitted.

Students whose records are incomplete (e.g., required courses still incomplete, official transcripts for transfer courses not on file, grades not recorded, etc.) or who fail to meet program requirements will be considered for graduation/completion in the next semester. These deferred applications for graduation/completion will be automatically moved to subsequent semesters for a short period of time. Afterward, the application will be inactivated.

All academic requirements applying to a degree (including work transferred) must be completed within a seven-year time period. Nursing has a five-year limit, Psychology a four-year limit.  The time limit is also four years for GAP’s and Certificates. This time period begins with the beginning date of the first term in which course(s) were taken that apply to the degree/GAP/certificate.  This may not be the semester of admission to the program.  Transfer credits are included in the time period calculation.  The time period ends with the semester the final degree requirement is completed.

UW Oshkosh does not designate academic honors at the university-level for graduate students. Since all graduating graduate students must have a GPA of 3.00 or better, the UW Oshkosh Graduate Council believes awarding honors overstates what is already a higher level of achievement in comparison to undergraduate study. Further, the Graduate Council believes honors, if the same or similar as undergraduates, blur the distinction between undergraduate and graduate education.

Some programs confer honors within their program, discipline or college. These honors are recognized at the UW Oshkosh Honors and Awards ceremony and are published in the official program of this ceremony. Please check with your program or college to find out if they confer honors and the requirements for such honors. At this time it’s not acceptable to wear the cords or stoles of your discipline’s respective honor society to the university commencement ceremony.

Commencement ceremonies are held at the end of the 14-week term of the spring and fall semesters. A student’s official graduation/completion date will be the final day of classes of the 17-week fall or spring semester, or the final day of the 8-week summer semester in which he or she completes the program requirements.

Graduate students whose graduation date is at the end of the summer semester (August) have two commencement ceremony options:

• Participate the following December: Applications for graduation/completion are due by the end of the first week of the summer session.
• Participate the preceding May: Applications for graduation/completion are due by the end of the fourth week of the spring semester.

GAP and Certificate recipients do not take part in commencement.
