Fox Cities Campus Transition

UWO announced in June 2024 the difficult decision to end teaching and learning at UWO’s Fox Cities campus on June 30, 2025, a difficult decision that was based primarily on declining enrollment (see FAQ below for additional information).

Your choices

Students have the option of:

  • Continuing at UWO’s Fox Cities campus through the spring 2025 semester
  • Studying online
  • Transitioning now to UWO’s Oshkosh campus

Fox Cities campus students who transition to the Oshkosh campus following the 2024-25 academic year and are continuously enrolled will continue at the UWO Fox Cities tuition rate through 60 credits, attainment of your Associate of Arts and Sciences degree, or January 1, 2027, whichever comes first.

We realize this is difficult news, but we absolutely want you to attend UWO this fall and are here to support you through this transition

Frequently asked questions

Why is UWO’s Fox Cities campus closing in June 2025?

We made this difficult but responsible decision as stewards of public resources based in great part on the following criteria. Current and future enrollments at UWO Fox Cities are not strong enough to financially sustain the campus. In examining the budget, we determined that Fox Cities campus enrollment would need to be more than twice what it is now to generate enough revenue to operate the campus. This challenge is made more difficult by a strong labor market and the continuing decline in the population of high school students and college-going students.

What is the process for transitioning to Oshkosh? What will I need to do?

Our staff are here to make the transition as smooth as possible for you so you can focus on your studies and achieve student success. Fox Cities campus students have choices for the 2024-25 school year:

  • Attend UWO Fox Cities for the year, then transition to UWO’s Oshkosh campus after the Spring 2025 semester if you haven’t completed your studies.
  • Register for UWO online courses.
  • Transition to UWO’s Oshkosh campus in fall 2025.

Your admissions counselor or advisor can help you evaluate all your options so you can have confidence in the option that makes the most sense for you and your goals.

Will students continue at the UWO Fox Cities tuition rate? For how long?

Students who attend the Fox Cities campus during the 2024-25 academic year and transition to the Oshkosh campus for the 2025-26 academic year (continuous enrollment) will continue at the UWO Fox Cities campus tuition rate through 60 credits, attainment of your Associate of Arts and Sciences degree, or January 1, 2027, whichever comes first. Students must be continuously enrolled to maintain the Fox Cities campus tuition rate.

How are fees impacted by this announcement?

Students who are continuously enrolled and qualify for continuation of the UWO Fox Cities campus tuition rate will also pay the Fox Cities segregated fee rate until they achieve 60 credits or attainment of your Associate of Arts and Sciences degree.

The Oshkosh campus has a housing residency requirement. Will this be waived for students coming from UWO Fox Cities?

Students who are transitioning from the Fox Cities campus to the Oshkosh campus will have an opportunity to live on campus if they wish, but the housing residency requirement will be waived.

How does this affect Summer 2025 courses and tuition?

As Fox Cities campus courses will end June 30, 2025, those wishing to participate in Summer 2025 courses will do so via the Oshkosh campus or online at the UWO Fox Cities campus tuition rate where eligible.

What are my options if I am unable to get to Oshkosh for classes?

Many courses are available online. Fox Cities campus students are encouraged to meet with the assigned advisor to discuss all their available options so they can make the choice that is best suited for their individual needs and program.

Does this announcement impact which classes will be available during the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters?

The Fall 2024 course schedule is already set, and the Spring 2025 course schedule will be unveiled soon. We do not expect changes to the schedule based solely on this transition, though other factors such as course demand may impact future course availability.

Will classes continue to be available face-to-face as well as online?

Yes, UWO will still offer face-to-face in Oshkosh and online courses after the June 2025 transition date.

What support is available if my plan is to transition somewhere other than Oshkosh?

UWO will support your journey regardless of what you choose. Our staff are available to address any questions or concerns you may have, so you have the information and confidence you need to make the decision that is best for you.

Will there be an opportunity to visit the Oshkosh campus to learn more about it?

Absolutely. Students can schedule a daily visit to the Oshkosh campus here. There is also a campus visit day specifically designed for Fox Cities students coming up on Friday, March 7, 2025. Watch your email in February for registration information.

When do I need to make a decision about my fall 2025 plans?

While there technically isn’t a deadline, we aim to provide you with the support you need to decide well before the start of the fall 2025 semester so you can focus your time and attention on your studies. Students need only be continuously enrolled to remain eligible for the Access Campus tuition rate as discussed previously.

Where can I find up-to-date information?

As new information is available, we will post it to our Fox Cities Transition webpage and share information through email or other means where appropriate. That page contains a helpful Frequently Asked Questions section, as well as a form where UWO Fox Cities campus students can ask questions that are not addressed in the FAQ.

Who should I contact if I have questions?

We are here for you. UWO staff will continue to provide support to you as you navigate options and make plans beyond the spring 2025 semester. Should you have additional questions, we invite you to reach out to any Fox Cities staff member, admissions counselor, or advisor.

Are there additional resources available to help navigate this change?
