Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Requirements

For Graduate Students

The majority of general SAP information can be found on the Satisfactory Academic Progress page. However there are a few graduate-specific standards that must be met.

A graduate student’s SAP status may be viewed in TitanWeb. SAP will be evaluated and updated in Titan Web prior to the start of each semester. SAP is only applicable to students wishing to receive financial aid.

Meeting Minimum SAP Standards for Graduate Programs

Graduate students must successfully complete at least 67% of cumulative attempted credits in a given semester at UW Oshkosh AND maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Attempted credits include all UW Oshkosh credits (including drops/withdrawals) that a student is enrolled on or after the University’s add/drop deadline, as well as transfer credits from other postsecondary institution(s). Classes graded “F,” “incomplete” or “not pass” will be evaluated as courses attempted, but not successfully completed.

Maximum Number of Graduate Credits Allowed

Students must complete their graduate program within 150% of minimum required credits for a master’s degree. For example if a student is pursuing their first graduate degree program that consists of 30 total credits, they may be eligible to receive financial aid for up to 45 attempted credits.

The maximum credit limit includes all credits attempted at UW Oshkosh and credits that have successfully transferred from another postsecondary institution, regardless of whether the student received financial aid for those credits. Students approaching their maximum credit limit for financial aid eligibility will be notified via email.  They will not be placed on Financial Aid Warning status unless they also do not meet the GPA and/or completion-rate requirement.

Students who surpass the 150% credit limit will be ineligible for federal and state financial aid, including grants, loans and work-study, unless they have an approved an approved SAP appeal form. (Find appeal form on Forms and Applications page.)
