Operational Transfer (Accounting Adjustment)

An operational transfer is the movement of funds between university accounts to support routine business activities, internal cost allocations, or departmental operations. These transfers do not represent revenue or expenses; instead, they reallocate existing resources to ensure that financial activity is aligned with operational needs, budget structures, and institutional policies.

Operational transfers help maintain accurate financial reporting by ensuring that funds are recorded in the correct accounts and reflect the true financial activity of each unit.  Operational transfers are often used to move an expense to the correct account or worktag.

Operational transfers can be completed by each unit’s Unit Business Officer. Please work with your UBO if a transfer is needed.

Operational transfers can be applied to these transactions

  • Expense reports
  • Supplier invoice
