Faculty Senate met on March 30th virtually. Senators acted on several curricular and other items, and formed the Senate elections committee ahead of Faculty Senate elections. Senators also heard an overview of a UW System draft proposal regarding the expansion of distance education (termed Project DE+). Provost Koker shared insights from the UW System presentation on DE+. The project has been billed as building on the Wisconsin Idea and the centralized branded UW System online programming of UW Extended Campus to expand opportunities for adult learners in Wisconsin and the Midwest. It will be presented to the Board of Regents at the April meeting. It was also noted in the meeting that UW System Faculty Representatives were briefed on the DE+ proposal at their March meeting – faculty representatives shared concerns at that meeting and later in a separate letter about curriculum oversight and the need to include campus experts and shared governance in the development of a system-wide approach.
