I grew up in western Oregon and spent several years working in Oregon for the Forest Service after receiving my Bachelors Degree. Spending a lot of time in forests I began to feel comfortable in them and curious about the interactions that I saw - human-vegetation interactions, soil-vegetation interactions, climate-vegetation interactions and especially disturbances such as fire. The relation between these components was the major motivation behind furthering my education in Geography and in my present research.
