Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Program

University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is dedicated to the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. There are 59 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) strategically placed throughout campus.  The AEDs are easy to use which makes resuscitation possible for lay people, even those with no medical training. The AED will check a person’s heart rhythm and recognize if and when a shock is needed. The AED uses clear voice commands, lights, and text messages to tell the rescuer what steps to take.

The purchase, placement, inspection, and maintenance of AEDs at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is handled by Environmental Health and Safety. Inspection and replacement of units comply with manufacturer specifications. We strongly recommend that you look for the AEDs in your building so you can locate one quickly if needed.

In an emergency:

  1. Call 911.
  2. Send someone to retrieve the nearest AED.
  3. Follow the AED’s voice prompts.
  4. Continue care until emergency responders arrive.
