Career Closet Craze: Dress To Impress

Written by: Bailey Azarian

After many mock interviews and months of preparation, you are finally ready to step out into the real world. Your resume has been written, you scheduled an interview with a possible employer and now all you need is a polished, professional look for your interview that will boost your confidence and help you land your dream job.  UW Oshkosh Career Services opened a Career Closet on Tuesday, October 15th. The Career Closet is an on-campus program dedicated to providing professional attire to students, who are preparing for an interview, and are financially unable to purchase their own. If you have a big interview coming up and need a professional outfit, students can now make appointments to visit the Career Closet in Career Services.  This is a great source of appropriate business suits and ‘office presentable’ clothing.

It is important to have a prepared, professional look when going into an interview to make your first impression a great one.  The first impression you make on a potential employer is also the most important one. The first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on your appearance and what you are wearing. That is why it is always important to dress appropriately for a job interview. Dressing appropriately also gives you the confidence you need to impress interviewers with your personality. The look you display plays an important part in how others perceive you.  Make sure that the first impression you create at an interview is a positive, professional one.  A job interview is not the best time to be concerned with making an individual statement. Base your attire on the company’s culture as well as your possible responsibilities.

Remember when you a preparing for an interview or a professional event that you only get one change to make a first impression. If you want to be seen as a professional you need to dress like one. Show your interviewer that you understand and accept his or her expectations about dress. UWO students in need of a professional look, whether head –to-toe or just a finishing touch for an interview, workshop or networking event, are welcome to “shop” at the Career Closet in the Career Services office (SSC, Suite 125) – at NO cost to the student! Call Career Services at 920-424-2181 to schedule an appointment to check out our inventory.

Here are just two examples of outfits you might find in the Career Closet. Students will be allowed to choose up to 4 items per semester. Like our Facebook page so you can see our featured “outfits of the week” every week.
