How to Receive Services

Students who request accommodations for a disability must register with the Accessibility Center before accommodations can be made. Students will be required to fill out the Accommodation Request Form and submit appropriate documentation. When this documentation has been reviewed, the student will be contacted to setup a meeting to discuss reasonable accommodations.

If you are a prospective student, check out these resources.

Timing is very important. It is best to submit documentation and request accommodations as soon as possible. Documentation should ideally be submitted at least 2 weeks before meeting with the coordinator in order to allow time for review. During extremely busy times at the beginning and end of each semester, it may be difficult to schedule accommodation interviews. So plan ahead.

Timing is also important as some accommodations such as scheduling sign language interpreters or obtaining textbooks and course materials in alternate formats can take several weeks.

Documentation is required to setup services. Provide this information to the Accessibility Center to start this process:

Accommodation Interviews

Once documentation is received, the student is invited to schedule an initial interview. During the interview, the coordinator will get to know you, review documentation, discuss academic goals, and determine reasonable accommodations. Notices to schedule accommodation interviews will be sent to your campus email. Accommodation interviews will also include a brief orientation to our services and review of classroom procedures for utilizing accommodations.

Renewing Accommodations

Initial accommodations will generally be approved for a full academic year. Renewing accommodations allows the student and the coordinator to discuss the current accommodation plan and make any changes that might be necessary. After the initial year, accommodation plans will generally be valid through the student’s anticipated graduation. In some cases, however, accommodation plans may need to be renewed more often. The coordinator will discuss renewal plans with you during your accommodation interview.
