How do I digitally correct a paper in Turnitin/Grademark?

Instructors can easily access digital copies of student papers through Turnitin and correct them without ever having to print a page. There are a few key steps to correcting a paper that are covered in this FAQ.

Step 1: Accessing and Correcting the Student Submission

  1. From the navigation bar, click Dropbox.
  2. Click on the desired folder.
  3. Click the "Grade and Leave Feedback" link to the right of the submission.
  4. If you wish to use Grademark to leave feedback, click the dropdown adjacent to the submission title and select "Markup Document".

  5. A new browser tab will open to display the GradeMark viewer.grammar check turnitin
  6. Utilize the GradeMark tools, described in this link:  How do I use Turnitin Document Viewer markup tools?
  7. GradeMark will save the correcting and comments automatically.  
    BEFORE EXITING THE BROWSER, add a grade to the top right corner of the screen.                         add grade1   add grade 2  Add Grade 3
  8. Then hit Enter or click off of the box. 
  9. Close the browser tab to return to D2L.

Step 2: Grade and Leave Feedback (Make Corrections Accessible to Student)

  1. The left pane will show the Folder Submission History (which should be the paper that was just corrected).  The right pane will show the evaluation section.

  1. Leave desired feedback in the panel on the right side of the screen.
  • If you attached a rubric to the dropbox, it can be completed by clicking the rubric icon.
  • If you assigned a grade item to the dropbox folder, enter a value in the Score out of field. 
  • Provide comments and suggestions in the General feedback field.
  • Attach a File or Record Audio feedback. For more information on how to do this, see this link: How do I use the audio capture feature?
  1. To give feedback to the students right away, click Publish.
  2. To save the feedback and not let students see it, click Save Draft. (NOTE: To publish feedback at a later date, go back to the submission folder, click the checkbox next to the student(s), and click Publish Draft Feedback.)
