How to Create a New Course Home Page

Step 1: Create a new Homepage

  1. Click "Edit Course" in the upper right corner.
  2. Click on the "Homepages" link.
  3. You will see a list of several default home pages.  Click the dropdown next to "10.0 Course Homepage-default" and select "copy".
  4. In a second or two a new homepage will appear (it will be blue), click the title of the new homepage to modify the homepage layout.
  5. Modify the fields and options as necessary.
    • Name: Give the homepage an identifiable title.
    • Description: Add a description, if adding additional widgets, this is a good place to include which widgets have been added.
    • Type: Please leave this set to Widget-based.
    • Homepage Header: If you would like to add a header, feel free.  Otherwise the course name is listed by default
    • Layout: In an effort to keep the D2L experience consistent for users we ask that you keep this option set to "Basic: Two Panels".
  6. Widgets:  The lower portion of the page contains a representation of the default home page.  You will see the News widget on the left and the Updates, Calendar and Library widgets on the right.  To add a widget click the "Add Widget" button on the appropriate panel.
  7. A pop-up will appear containing the widgets currently available to this course.  Click the checkbox next to the widget to be added and click the "Add" button.
  8. If desired click the three small lines on the left side of the widget to relocate it to a different location.
  9. Click Save and Close at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Apply the homepage to your course

  1. Locate the Active Homepage field.
  2. Use the dropdown to select the homepage just created.
  3. Click Apply
  4. Click Course Home to review your new homepage.
