Written Instructions

Step One: Creating a New Link Group

  1. From the navigation bar, click Edit Course.
  2. Under "Site Setup", click Navigation and Themes.
  3. At the top of the page, click the Custom Links tab.
  4. You should see "Other Tools" in the list.  Click the drop down arrow to the right of "Other Tools" and click Copy.
  5. Once the "Other Tools - Copy" has been created, click on its blue title.
    • Name: Create a name for the link group. Remember, whatever name it has will appear on the Navigation bar.  An option would be to call it "Other Links".
    • Description: This is an optional step and will only be viewed by the instructor.
    • Links: IMPORTANT!: This step MUST be done. Under the list of existing links in this link group (Quizzes, Calendar, Classlist, ePortfolio, and Online Rooms should be here), click Add Existing Link.
  6. A new window will appear. Select the desired link and click Add.
  7. The desired new link should be included in the list of the existing Links. Click Save.

Step Two: Creating a New Navigation Bar

  1. NOTE: At this point, you should see the new Link Group you just created in blue. At the top of the page, click the Navbars tab.
  2. Click the 10.0 Course Home - Default drop down arrow.
  3. Click Copy.
  4. Once the blue 10.0 Course Home - Default has appeared, click on it.
    • Name: Give the navigation bar a name so that you can differentiate between navigation bars.
    • Description: Optional step and the description will only be visible by the instructor.
  5. At the bottom of the page under "Left Logo", click Add Links.
  6. A new window will appear. At the top of that window, click Custom Groups.
  7. Select the Link Group you just created and click Add.
  8. Under the "Left Logo", "Other Tools" and the new link group will appear. "Other Tools" must be deleted. Hover your mouse cursor over the "Other Tools" box and a black X in a circle will appear. Click on that X to delete "Other Tools". Delete Other Tools
  9. Click Save and Close.

Step Three: Make Navigation Bar Active

  1. You should now see this screen: Navbar Screen
  2. Under "Active Navbar", click the drop down arrow and select the navbar you just created.
  3. Click Apply. You should see the new link group in the navigation bar and the links that you have added to it.
