How do I set due dates for homework posted in D2L?

Instructors can link items in various locations of their course site to the Calendar and give items due dates for their students to see.

Written Instructions

First Way:

  1. From the Navigation Bar, select the drop down arrow for Other Tools.
  2. Select Calendar.
  3. Under the month heading, click Set Due Dates. Set Due Dates
  4. A new window will appear. Select the arrow to the right of the desired module. (***NOTE: If you want to have the entire module due at one time, select the circle to the left of the module.)Set due date window
  5. Select the circle to the left of the file. Click Add.
  6. If desired, give a description.
  7. Set a due date. You may also click the "No start date" button to add a start date to give a larger window of homework submissions.
  8. Click Save. 

Second Way:

  1. From the Navigation Bar, select the drop down arrow for Other Tools, then select Calendar. Or on the right pane click the "Calendar" drop down arrow and select Go to Calendar.
  2. Click Create Event.
  3. Under "Title", select Add Content.  Add Content
    • Select the module.
    • Select the desired file.  
    • Click Add.
  4. If desired, add a description of the event.
  5. Under "Attendees" decide, using the drop down arrow, who will be able to view this event. Everyone in the course or small groups can be selected. 
  6. Under "When", note when the event is taking place. Add Recurrence means you may repeat the event (i.e. Weekly Quiz).  Add Restriction allows you to manage when students see the event on the calendar. 
  7. Click Create. 

Third Way:

  1. When creating an item in D2L (discussion, dropbox, quiz, content item, etc.), there is always a section for availability/visibility. 
  2. Under this section (sometimes in "Restrictions"), give the item a due date. Display in Calendar Availability
  3. Check the box Display in Calendar.
  4. Click Save.
