EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes, showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences.
EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
This modality is offered in conjunction with individual therapy. It does not count against the 12 individual therapy appointments that you get per year, as it is an adjunctive service. In order to get referred for EMDR Therapy, you must be seeing a provider for individual therapy to ensure that a referral for EMDR Therapy is appropriate for your treatment goals.
At this time, only our therapists Becky Parman Knoll and Tyler Volkert are trained in providing EMDR Therapy. Call the Counseling Center at (920) 424-2061 to connect with a therapist and begin the referral process for EMDR Therapy.
