UW Oshkosh Fond du Lac Campus
Student Choice Teaching Excellence Award
Mike Jurmu
Mike Jurmu is a geography professor at the UW Oshkosh, Fond du Lac campus. He is chair of the improvement of instruction committee, represents the Fond du Lac campus faculty on faculty senate, is a member of the faculty senate executive committee, the constitution and bylaws committee and the collegium and steering committee.
The award is described as follows: “In recognition of your ability to make student’s days better before and during class. Students appreciate your support both in and out of the classroom, willingness to help and your ability to incorporate fun and a bit of humor into your classroom”
Jurmu came to the former UW Colleges because he saw how dedicated they were to the Wisconsin Idea—let’s educate our folk! He stayed in the UW System because of the great faculty and staff at the Fond du Lac campus and the magic that occurs in the classroom. He says in many cases, it transforms lives. “You can’t get that anywhere else!”
