Doctor of Nursing Practice

DNP

The highest level of nursing education

A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree represents the highest level of education in specialized advanced nursing practice roles. A DNP is practice focused, whereas a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree is researched-focused.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) advises the educational entry level for advanced practice nurses be at the DNP level.
