The Week Ending February 17

The biggest accomplishment since my last entry has to be fixing the problem in my VM where I had lost all internet connection. I thought it was related to the fact that VMWare kept prompting me to update VMware Tools; and according to my research, this was indeed something that could cause a loss of internet connection. So I updated them. And updated them. And updated them. It seemed no matter how many times I went through the installation process, VMWare would still tell me the tools needed to updated and I still didn't have an internet connection. It was quite frustrating. It was suggested to me to try reimporting the VM and to try connecting via ethernet instead. I never got around to doing either of those since I decided to try restoring the default settings for the virtual network. This reinstalled all the network drivers and successfully reinstated my connection to the internet. I was finally able to get onto my Plone site and finish Chapter 13 of the Plone Training Manuel. In this chapter, I learned how to create new content types with a variety of fields. Our resident Plone expert, Kim Nguyen, talked to the class about workflows and their usefulness to set which users can do certain things, as well as set automatic or manual changes to the site.

I now have a team that I will be working with for the large Plone project this semester. My teammates are Cooper Walbrun and Levi Broadnax. We were discussing potential ideas for the project and one of our ideas is building a web crawler to check for dead links between Plone sites that are on the same installation. Another one was suggested, but I can't remember what it was and no one wrote it down. Hopefully, the others remember.

I hope to learn more about workflows and building the Plone website up to something truly exciting. I also hope to figure out when my team will do our "stand-up" meetings since we haven't figured that out yet.
