DEAN’S NOTE

Hi everyone, I wanted to share with you all the news that our Unit Business Officer, Casey Bennett, will not be returning to the university following her family leave. We are extremely sad to lose her but happy that she will be spending more time with her adorable new baby! A search is underway to fill two UBO vacancies.


PROGRAM UPDATES

  • Bill Gillard (English) presented the paper “Startling Trek: Robert Bloch’s Three Spooky Star Trek Episodes” at the Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association international conference, which took place April 15-19 in New Orleans.
  • Adam Ochonicky (English) organized and chaired a roundtable on “Nostalgia, Ethics, and Preservation: Challenges and Strategies for Research on Private and Public Media Archives” at the Annual Conference of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies in Chicago. Adam’s presentation topic was “Analog Media Collector Groups on Social Media.”

STUDENT NEWS

  • Student Jhanik Posnanski and his mentor Courtney Bauder (Social Justice) were awarded a Green Fund Grant for cleaning up Zyns (tobacco pouches) that are littered across campus as part of Jhanik’s Social Action Project in Courtney’s Environmental Studies 101 class.
  • The Psychology Department formally inducted 9 new members into the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Chapter of Psi Chi (the International Honor Society for Psychology) at Becket’s in Oshkosh on April 25.
