DEAN’S NOTE

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Chancellor candidate forums this week. I know it’s a very busy time of year, getting busier with each day, and I appreciate your taking the time to provide feedback on this important search. COLS was well represented at the forums!

Just a reminder that today is the last day to apply for the associate dean/school director position for the School of Education and Human Services.


PROGRAM UPDATES

  • JaeHan Bae (Art) presented a paper, “Teaching Difficult Histories Through Art: Understanding Korean Japanese (Zainichi: 在日) Experiences and Promoting Social Justice,” at the National Art Education Association Convention in Louisville, KY.
  • Susan Maxwell (Art) gave a talk at the annual Renaissance Society Conference in Boston on March 20 titled “Lessons in Iconography and Technique in Joachim von Sandrart’s ‘Twelve Months’ ” as part of a session sponsored by the Historians of Netherlandish Art (Imagination at Work: Inventive Iconography in the Arts of the Early Modern Netherlands). She also chaired a session on “Locating and Representing Creative Women and Female Figures.”
  • Sam Larson (Sociology and Public Administration) presented a paper, “Tools for Increasing Trust in Elections and Preventing Political Violence,” at the 2025 Annual Conference of the American Society for Public Administration in Washington, D.C. on March 29.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • The NSF-ADVANCE team is sponsoring a virtual workshop Thursday, April 24, 2:00-4:00 pm on “Advancing Excellence in Tenure and Promotion” hosted by Jeffrey Allen Steiger of Florida International University. This event will provide a look into how professional actors and a cinematic, research-based script can transcend traditional pedagogy, undercut resistance and train faculty how to practically mitigate bias in Tenure and Promotion committee meetings.
