Dr. Rachel Gilreath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Services. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of South Carolina and holds a Master of Science in School and Mental Health Counseling from Purdue University Fort Wayne (both programs are CACREP accredited).
Dr. Gilreath has extensive clinical experience working predominantly with children, adolescents, and young adults in both school and mental health settings. She has obtained a Play Therapy Certificate and is planning to pursue licensure, further expanding her clinical expertise.
In the classroom, Dr. Gilreath is passionate about teaching career planning and development, child and adolescent counseling, and group counseling, as well as providing university-based supervision to counseling students. Her approach to teaching is grounded in constructivist principles, fostering an inclusive and engaging environment where students can thrive. She has supervised numerous graduate students, guiding them in both clinical mental health and school counseling tracks.
Her research interests include comprehensive school counseling programs in nontraditional settings, inclusive pedagogy, and career development for marginalized populations. She is dedicated to advancing the counseling profession through her scholarly work, including publications and presentations at national, regional, and local conferences.
Dr. Gilreath is also actively involved in service to the profession, holding leadership roles in organizations such as the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (NCACES) and Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES). She is eager to contribute to the academic community at UWO, nurturing future counseling professionals and building meaningful partnerships that advance the field.
