Office of Field Experience

Student teaching is a school district semester of hands-on final field work under the supervision of a qualified cooperating teacher and university supervisor.  Candidates practice and apply what they have learned during their academic program including creating lesson plans, applying assessment tools, differentiating instruction, completing edTPA and gaining insights on general administrative duties.

The Wisconsin DPI requires a full-semester of student teaching based upon the calendar of the respective school district.   Semester calendars vary from district to district but the general schedule will be:

  •  Fall candidates begin student teaching with in-service meetings in mid-late August and complete their semester-long capstone experience in mid-late January.
  • Spring candidates begin student teaching in mid-late January and end the early part of June.
