Toward A Transformed Vision of Contemplative Education Centering Social Justice
Description
Laura I. Rendón is Professor Emerita at the University of Texas-San Antonio. Her presentation will focus on the topics of student success, the assets that students who have been structurally excluded from higher education bring to campus, evidence-based best practices that increase student engagement and success, and sensing/thinking deep learning experiences.
A native of Laredo, Texas Rendón’s passion is ensuring that the nation’s educational system fosters success for all students, especially those who are low-income and first generation. Her research has focused in particular on Latino/a and Hispanic college students. Rendón developed “validation theory,” an asset-based student success framework that has been employed to frame research studies and programmatic activities in two- and four-year colleges and universities.
