Monitoring Student Engagement with Course Analytics

Instructors across campus are sharing stories about the lack of student engagement in their courses this semester. Anecdotally, instructors are reporting that, when students either joined an in-person or online course synchronously or took a course fully online, their engagement in the course often fell below expectations. To address this emergent concern among instructors, this workshop will focus on strategies for accessing data about student engagement. Canvas, Kaltura, Collaborate Ultra, and Proctorio all have data analytics which instructors can access which will provide a snapshot of student engagement in the course. While data alone can't tell the whole story of student's engagement in the course, it can provide insight into students' online work and the length of time they engage with materials, videos, and tests. Come to this session if you want to gain more insight into students' activity in your class.
