Housing and ESA Accommodations
The Center for Accessibility & Disability Resources and Residence Life work together to provide reasonable accommodations that help support personal development and academic success to students living on campus. All housing and ESA accommodation requests are reviewed by the UWO Housing Accommodation Review Team on a case-by-case basis through the documentation review and interactive initial interview process. The committee meets biweekly to review requests throughout each term.
All first and second-year Oshkosh campus students are required to live in university residence halls. Reasonable accommodations in room assignments, configurations, and adaptive devices are available to students with supporting documentation.
Housing assignments are based on disability-related needs, not requests or preferences. Not all residence halls are designed to meet the needs of students in the same way. If a student’s first choice for a residence hall is not designed to meet the disability related needs of the student, the student may be assigned to another residence hall where that accommodation can be made.
Requests for reasonable accommodations should be submitted to the Center for Accessibility & Disability Resources in advance of the anticipated move in date. Housing Application.
Any student seeking a housing exemption as part of an accommodation should submit their request to the Center for Accessibility & Disability Resources. If you are seeking an exemption from the housing requirements for any other reason, please contact Residence Life to obtain a Housing Appeal Form.
Recommended Timeline
The housing and ESA accommodation request process involves a great deal of collaboration and can take time to complete. We recommend that students submit housing and ESA accommodation requests as early as practically possible before moving into university housing. It is recommended that housing accommodation requests be submitted by June 15th for the following fall term and November 15th for the following spring term.
