Arts Integration: The art of collage

Lesson Objectives:

  • Learn about urban legends and the terminology associated with it.
  • Use the knowledge from the world myths unit to supplement this one.
  • Watch and analyze the urban legend movie “The Mothman Prophecies.”
  • Learn about collages and symbolism in art.
  • Create a collage using symbolism from the movie.

 

Activities: Learn components, watch and analyze movie, learn collage information, plan collage with symbolism from movie, create collage

Engagement/Introduction: Start unit with urban legends from Snopes and stories that are true and have them guess which is which.

Assessment Procedure: The assessment is in two parts. The first is the analysis of the movie. The second is the writing portion of the collage and the collage itself.
