Content Focus: Students will be able to practice and understand rhythm and beat. Students will then apply what they know to familiar songs and practice changing the original lyrics to multiples of a number! I even incorporate movement with this so students can stomp along to the beat around the classroom while singing.

Language Focus: speaking, listening

Vocabulary Focus: multiples, rhythm, beat

Standards: M.3.OA.C.6 [WI.2010.3.OA.B.7] Use multiplicative thinking to multiply and divide within 100.

Arts Integration: music (rhythm, beat), movement

Lesson Objectives:

  • Students will learn how to keep a beat.
  • Students will learn and memorize multiplication facts.

Activities: Singing, movement (optional)

Engagement/Introduction: Keeping a beat to any song, keeping the beat to one of the skip counting songs (jingle bells, you are my sunshine)

Assessment Procedure: Students were assessed after learning the songs of the multiples from 1-10.

Modifications: For ELL, teaching them the original lyrics first would be beneficial and then switching the lyrics to multiples.
