Standards:

  • SS.Inq3.a.i: Create a thesis statement based on evidence found in sources to make a claim.
  • SS.Geog1.b.i Identify the purposes of and differences among maps, globes, aerial photographs, charts, and satellite images.
  • SS.GEO2.a.3: Categorize populations of people living in their state and country. Compare and contrast types of communities and different types of places on Earth (e.g. community, state, region, country/nation).
  • SS.BH4.a.i Classify technologies based on intended use, access, and design, and how they might change people’s lives (for better or worse).

Arts Integration:

  • A.A.R.6.i: describe details, subject matter and the context of an artwork

 

Lesson Objectives: Students can take what they have learned about maps and arrays and create their own shapes to make buildings for their cities. students will then be able to say what array they created with their building and identify the area of it as well

Activities: 

  • make a flip book
  • make/cutting and folding buildings
  • making and designing their own city

 

Engagement/Introduction: flip book to remember continent, country, state, city

Assessment Procedure: assessment starts at watching students engagement during the activity, then with the flip book, end product and and exit ticket

Materials: colored printer paper, scissors, glue/tape, coloring supplies

Modifications: cut out pre-made buildings to be put into arrays
