Arts Integration: collage and complementary colors
Lesson Objectives:
- 5th Grade: To create an accurate food chain in a creative way.
- 1st Grade: To practice identifying complementary colors, to create a piece of art in the style of Henri Matisse, and to write about the unique features of the animal created in support of Wit and Wisdom (ELA curriculum) module.

Engagement/Introduction: Students begin with their homeroom teacher in science or ELA respectively with some background knowledge. The collage connection comes in to as an evolving objective after the unit has already begun.
Assessment Procedure: Projects are checked for accuracy of food chain (5th grade) or use of complementary colors (1st grade). Descriptions and planning documents are checked for use of academic vocabulary.
